David Brooks is at it again....
His latest column titled 'The Importance of Brain Power' in my local NYT subsidiary paper (the original NYT column may have another title) states that

"For example, (NOTE: I had to insert "income" here) inequality is much lower when measured by consumption than by income because poorer people now spend much more than they officially report as income."

After picking myself up off the floor -- first because Brooks appears to be now AWARE of the huge income inequality gap, that top 1% of Bush's "base" vs. virtually everybody else, and second because how Brook's awareness of brain power is so self-evidently lacking -- I realize that he is deliberately playing with words. Again.

The poor are now consuming more on under-reported income ? More like charging more on credit cards that will soon be 'maxxed-out' ! Brooks is entirely lacking in that flair for the obvious that columnists, especially high profile ones at the NYT are supposed to have in abundance.

Just another oblivious bobo in paradise, I guess.

1. with out having to spell it out he accuses them
of theft, participating in a black market economy{remember cheney's remarks re: e-bay?}, working jobs under the table, etc.

yes the poor are actually rich -- and they have gotten their gains illegally.

this makes brooks the biggest tapeworm sucking cat piss on the block.

5. His 'legerdemaine' journalistically speaking is amazing isn't it ?
And you can't even call it journalism, either. What HAS HAPPENED to the once proud NYT anyway ? Maureen Dowd should do a column on her cohorts, ya know ?

"..biggest tapeworm sucking cat piss on the block" is putting it mildly, xchrom. Dante's Inferno has a special place in the bowels of hell for those who know better and treacherously scheme as traitors to what they already know is the truth for their own advantage.

6. what pisses me off is that he is a right wing radical
that the media, the times and he himself passes off as a ''walter middy'' type of character -- mild mannered, ''reasonable'', etc -- it's everything that falls outside of his spectrum that is radical.

4. hmm, I wonder if by "poor", he's talking about
the "closet millionaire" CEOs who used to declare that their salaries were $1 using an accounting trick . . . and then having all their expenses being written off as stuff from the business . . . but, of course, he's got to frame it as the "welfare queen" arriving at the welfare office in her Rolls Royce . . .
