Editor, Times-Dispatch: According to a soon-to-be released report from the House Judiciary Committee, the Bush administration has broken more than two dozen federal laws and regulations -- multiple times. Ranking committee member John Conyers writes that "the misconduct I have found is not only serious but widespread."
According to the report, "The laws broken by the administration's actions include federal laws against making false statements to Congress; federal laws and international treaties prohibiting torture and cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment; federal laws concerning retaliating against witnesses and other government employees; Executive Orders concerning leaking and other misuse of intelligence; federal regulations and ethical requirements governing conflicts of interest; the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act; communications privacy laws; the National Security Act; and the Fourth Amendment."
Every violation committed by Bush is an impeachable offense. Every illegal act he has committed and implemented is in direct violation of the Constitution. An illegal and duplicitous war for WMDs in Iraq; illegally spying on U.S. citizens; detainment, rendition, torture, incompetence, and immorality. The list is endless. Fortunately, a simple majority vote in the House is enough to impeach a sitting president. For the future of the country, it's time to put this criminal administration behind bars.
