Bush's panic visit is like of a thief that comes in the night
http://www.gulf-news.com/Articles/opinion.asp?ArticleID=104150

The head of state of the strongest nation on earth will normally not make a sneaky and panicky visit to a country which is wholly occupied by his troops, unless he is terrified and unsure of his own safety.

That was what US President George W. Bush did when he sneaked into Baghdad to try and lift the morale of his soldiers there by sharing their celebrations on Thanksgiving Day as claimed by the US Administration.

But the trip was counter-productive because Bush appears to have demoralised his troops, as the visit was surrounded by lies from the Administration. In doing so, Bush has confirmed the Arab saying: "Trying to improve it, he spoilt it."

Lied to the public

According to news reports, Bush flew 27 hours non-stop to spend just two and a half hours with his troops. His Administration, like the previous ones, lied when it said two days before the trip that Bush planned to spend Thanksgiving Day with his family and that he would send a telephone message to his troops in Iraq.

1. I bet they felt even more demoralized
when they looked at all those pictures in the press and half the soldiers in them weren't real soldiers. Even in the midst of his own troops the Commander in Thief had to be surrounded by secret service and it's the ss guys who are in most of the pictures.

2. that is what happens when instead of honesty and sincerity
you get staged productions. Staged productions shine the spotlight upon the actor, Bush. The rest of the support crew is viewed as nothing more than props. It is typical Bush the narcissist.

Further, the stealth and dranatics are, imo, indicative of a mysticism, much like the urban legend Christian e-mails that are sent out. People believe them in spite of their incongruous and blatant inconsistencies. He is building a mystic urban legend about himself--and this mysticism is a component in many fascist societies.

Indeed he did give the impression that he had to sneak into Iraq in the middle of the night like a theif--like a coward. It certainly, as the articlepoints out, would have made a much stronger impression if he had planned a Thanksgiving with the troops and took care of all the security details--it was done for his visit to the Queen , after all.

On the other hand, it may have been such an impromptu visit, due to a certain Senator Hillary Clinton's unafraid visit to Iraq, that there was no other way or choice but to quickly try to usurp the Senator--and the story of it being a "secret" for a month or so, was manufactured. No one is mentioning the cost to the taxpayer of this visit lasting only two hours and some minutes--no one is mentioning that he did NOT sit down and eat the dinner with the troops, but only arrived for the photo op--managed to blubber and sob uncontrollably as he shook hands with the troops andmade a spectacle out of his blubbering and sobbing in front of real men.
