To the people of Iran: I'm sorry for what's about to happen.
There's a very good chance the Bush administration is going to launch a strike against your country within the next month.

I know this won't do much good, but just know that most Americans understand it's not your fault. It's ours. Sure, you've got a nut for a leader. But so do we. They'll try to justify it with the uranium issue that keeps getting bandied about or that tired old "axis of evil" nonsense. There are a million reasons our military and the White House will use for their strike.

Unfortunately, the real reason is that our governing party is in danger of doing very badly in the upcoming election. A lot of their lies and general bungling can't be hidden anymore. There's a shift in momentum in this country and things may not fare well for them come election day. A book came out last week by an author the administration respects. However, the book paints a very unflattering portrait of them.

Then last Friday came the nail in the coffin -- it was revealed that a sitting congressman had been sending lurid instant messages and emails to teenage boys. Under normal circumstances, he'd resign from office and the thing would blow over. But our ruling party has tried to position itself as an anti-gay, pro-family, moral high road sort of group, which makes it doubly embarrassing for them. It also turns out the top guy in our House of Representatives knew about the congressman's activities for months and did nothing to stop it. It's getting pretty ugly, to tell you the truth.

I'm sorry, but that means things probably won't fare well for you in the weeks ahead. It's sinful. It's crazy. It's despicable. But it's how the Bush administration operates. If things are looking bad, create a demon, bomb the crap out of another country and try to convince voters to line up behind you and keep you in office. Pathetic, isn't it?

You may be asking yourselves why we would elect a man who's like that. We didn't, but that's a whole other set of issues.

If there's something I could do, I would do it. But I can't stop him. Your country can't stop him, either. The U.S. military has more bombs than just about anybody. In fact, with the new definitions of "terrorist" and "enemy combatant," I can probably be thrown in jail for as long as the government pleases, simply for writing this. Yeah, some democracy we've got here.

I figure the best thing I can do is apologize ahead of time for what a very sick government led by very corrupt and dangerous men may do in order to stay in power. I genuinely hope it doesn't happen, but if it does I pray for your safety.

Odis

2. I love your writing
but I don't think it will be more than a skirmish. More like a bully threat.

I certainly hope bush is not so insane as to try to start tearing up Iran with Afghanistan and Iraq still in pieces.

3. Maybe, just maybe the generals (the one's who take their oath seriously)
will refuse to follow illegal orders. Or would that be too heroic? Why are so many men ready to die for a president but not willing to stand up for the constitution? I don't understand it.

10. Maybe...
But I think he replaced most, if not all of those generals with those who will do what he says.

Sad.

4. K&R! Very well done. I hope you are wrong, but I fear you are
right. The Dictator had better take a good look out his window - he doesn't have anywhere near as many detention facilities as he is going to need. I know, he can kill us all and use our bodies as bio-mass to fuel his war machine...

the "cabal" is focusing on South America next. They want us to think the plan is another ME country.

12. Global Research doesn't exactly appear to be an arm of this admin:

14. colonel odis, nice work.
Love your letter. Thoughtful, honest. Unfortunately, I have the feeling that we're really going to need the sentiments expressed in it for real in the near future. Oh, that someone in the administration had a conscience, or placed the value of a foreign innocent's life ahead of political will.
