Oh Canada.
We recently decriminalized pot for people who want it and need it ‘medically’.. YAAAAYYYY! How does is feel Dems?
Yes... your neighbours, and buddies, to the north are the first country in the world to officially legalize pot (most of Europe tolerates it but it is still illegal, including Holland).
So what the hell. We also allow people who are the same sex to enter into a legal binding contract of marriage now as well. And why don't we just toss in socialized medicine... which, if I may add, is being crushed by the fact our snowbird doctors who head south to make five times the amount the 'poor' damn government will pay them at home.
But, Bush and his cohorts are about to beat us up soon; as dope smoking gay northern socialist commie evildoers, we are going to PAY for our democratic right to chose our own legal path as a country.
Because... Bush and the gang will tag and tie terrorism to a weak border and drug threat from the north. And our fags, potheads, neo-doctors and abortionists, compose a direct threat to the USA.
The good news?
Now... we are going to make heaps of money selling great gear south -and save money by keeping people out of jail. Great eh? LOL... it'll make it over the border as it's too big. Short of putting up a fence like Israel, I don’t think they can stop our marijuana terrorists.
And Gay tourism in Canada is huge as thousands of same-sex American couples flock north now to cinch the knot. We have made legal same sex marriages. Why not? Our gay tourism has skyrocketed with plenty of Americans denied a basic and historical (not religious) fact and right. Gay people have always been in all cultures and always will. And we have not problem with that here. In general, of course.
Oh well, we will just follow the path that Holland carved through Europe and hopefully we will open some eyes in the USA one day. Not by force but by example.
The pot industry is rivalling forestry (no thanks to Bush's illegal softwood lumber tariffs) and is worth over US$2 billion dollars a year to the British Columbia economy alone now. Thank god all those draft dodgers came in the seventies from the States and started cloning grass! If we can't sell you trees, we'll get you stoned.
The police in Canada have pretty well given up on even trying busting what they call 'Grow-ops', which are essentially hobby farms all over the country where people grow 30 to 40 plants a cycle and make and extra $20,000 to $50,000 a year. It's a $500 dollar fine and too much paperwork and lawyers. The cops are really giving up in BC now. We even have our first government supported needle cooperative now where junkies get injected safely and reduce risk of AIDS.
We, in turn, we get to profit while your Texans beat people and jail them for smoking herb. What? You can get life in Texas for a bag? There's really something wrong with that. Europe and your neighbours to the north have seen the light. Face it; there is nothing wrong with smoking hemp.
And I don't EVEN smoke. But I support the pro pot movement because I think it is GOOD FOR SOME PEOPLE. Then again I am not gay either. I am just a west coast dude living in Europe.
Ever see a fight in a bar between two Ganja smokers? You may find them laughing and eating wings if anything. In fact, they may be rolling on the floor, not in some drunken punch up, but from laughing too hard in jest.
It's the lobbyists in DC who control America. From Monsanto to Phillip Morris to Seagrams. That's a simple fact. You fight a war on soft drugs yet your CIA makes money from moving hard drugs. What's with that? It's all documented. And already heroin production is pumping tenfold in Afghanistan, since the war was 'won' and forgotten.
Fuck war.
In Canada, our Military is a complete disgrace after decades of neglect. Our first support ship heading to the Gulf last year had to turn back for repairs when it's 50's era chopper lifted off the ship and dropped out of the sky before even getting there.
Yet our armies have fought more battles than yours in the name of the UN, of who our Lester Pearson, was a founder. Our rag tag trucks, outdated weapons and prairie boys have refereeing battles in Africa and Asia for many, many years. Canadian soldiers have always played a big part in the UN. As Peace Keepers not War Mongers.
It turns out, Canadians have been secretly diverting funds from producing death machines to... well ensure that all our citizens have medical care.
We spend our money to give people the right to health – all of them. Many of the elderly in America today, get on buses on organized trips come to visit our wonderful country and BUY MEDICINE, after looking at the falls for a few minutes on the way over. Nice eh? They save 2/3’s of what they pay in the US, because of corporate greed.
Tell me, is there not something fundamentally wrong here?
While Canada is getting progressive, it seems to me the US is falling into some dark, Vietnam/Nixonesque/Macarthyish backward movement here. And it scares the hell out of me.
And I have heard the same old argument many times from Americans... well you should spend more money on weapons instead of relying on us to do so. Hey man, that is your choice which does not have to be ours.
And we proved our non-lap-dog status when we chose not to back our biggest neighbour over a war full of lies. I am proud of our government in Canada for not caving in like Poland and Spain and Britain. Kudos to Mexico as well. And Venezuela and Cuba and Germany and France, for that matter. They all showed balls.
It was obvious that there are some serious problems when Rummy is bragging he has more support than Gulf War I, because he has Antigua and Nauru on his side. Along with scores of other terrified small nation states who vie for the nipple, any nipple of Amerika.
Why can't America look at a pretty good model of peace, of people who live in a cultural mosaic as opposed to a melting pot which churns out flag wavers and kids who don’t even know where Iraq is on a map?
Canada is a tolerant place. We have our right wing. Yes. We have our problems too. No nation is perfect of course.
But this is quite unlike the current police state you exist in, brought on by the unfortunate theft of an election by a Texan Hangman.
Unless Dubya decides to invade. Water, oil, trees, wheat - we have it all.
Hold it… what did he say? Either you are with us or against us – and we did not support the war on Iraq. Does that mean we can be invaded?
thoughts for the day...
Caribmon.
