Not about NASCAR as much as a culture that watches it on TV.

And yes, the author is being sarcastic.

To be at a NASCAR race is a true experience, the TV version is simply an advertisers delight, minutes of adevrtising per race is very high. Plus the cars are rolling billboards, The Rick Henricks Lowes True Value etc etc etc Pepsi Chevrolet was really fast today.

Actually the ratio is lower than usual due to the short track causing very brief yellows!

I'm a raging lib and I've followed NASCAR for over 30 years. I can see how many people think it's 'go fast, turn left, repeat,' but it's a team sport like any other.

on edit: Yes, you can say NASCAR is Madison Ave. at 200mph, but it is also a prohibitively expensive to field a team. Even snobby European F-1 fans (I've been to F-1 races) have to put up with sponsorship issues.

Have done so much for the races. That they are very exciting at home too. I will still maintain that there is nothing to compare with "Gentlemen, start your Engines" and hearing (and feeling) 43 of those powerplants spring to life. The amount of racing which goes unseen on Tv is substantial too.

Your point is well taken, too! I will admit where I was Sunday...

...I can tell you, Surround Sound is pretty DAMN close to the sound of those engines! And it you think NASCAR is loud, you should hear an F-1 car go by at 200mph and 12K rpms!!!

Le Mans would be nice once just for the Legend, but with the hassle of travel now I suppose the 24 hours of Daytona will have to suffice. I have been threatening to get that Steve McQueen video for a while, I still have a soft spot for F40s, SOHC 427s and big displacement 12 cylinders (not in F40s, of course) and the days of yore...

I am enough of a gear head the pits are a big thing with me, but I haven't been to a NASCAR race since the first eighty nine Pocono race so things have definitely changed! Perhaps I'll send everybody away where I can get my surround really turned up, never got to really test out the volume on this set up yet!

...and gratuitous bashing.I like the sport-and I have no need to defend the sport...I both watch and attend events.....one more mindless clown takes easy shots...He is NOT merely non-insightful-He is boring...
