Canada barred from Iraq contracts
Excuse me but shouldn't this be Iraqs call soley?

----------------------------------------------

Washington — The Pentagon has formally barred companies from countries opposed to the Iraq war from bidding on $18.6-billion (U.S.) worth of reconstruction contracts.

A directive from Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz limits bidders on those 26 contracts to firms from the United States, Iraq, their coalition partners and other countries which have sent troops to Iraq.

The ruling bars companies from U.S. allies such as France, Germany and Canada from bidding on the contracts because their governments opposed the American-led war that ousted Saddam Hussein's regime.

1. Just when I think I can't be any more appalled, dismayed, or
frustrated by the arrogance of this administration...

I pray our Canuck neighbors know we are doing everything short of revolution to get these turds out of the WH.

3. they're puppets anyway
so even if the Iraqi governing council approved it it doesnt mean the rest of Iraq is OK with it.

The "governing council" and the bush junta have absolutely NO AUTHORITY to be making ANY contracts for Iraq

International law (and US' own laws of war) state that unless it's completely impossible the laws of a country must be respected during the recnstruction phase.

Iraq's constitution (written pre-Saddam) is quite specific about privatasation of key state assets. It does not allow them. It also denies foreigners the ownership of Iraqi firms.

All the contracts are null and void - good Naomi Klein article that explains it simply in the Guardian
