Who decides this election—you or Al Gore?
<snip>

It's one thing to endorse a candidate. It's another to suggest that criticism of that candidate undermines your party—particularly when you've got such stature, as the party's most recent presidential nominee, that no other candidate can afford to rebuke you.

"This campaign is not about Howard Dean going to the White House. This campaign is about us going to the White House, all of us," Dean told the crowd. "We will open the doors to the White House and let the American people back in." That's great, Howard. We'd love to go to the White House. We'd just like to go to the polls first.

2. The majority decides this election or
should anyway! Everyone has to get their snips in about what Gore does! Good! We're getting more attention.
People can think for themselves...and if Gore wants Dean to win then he can damn well get it out on the table. None of this pussyfootin' around!

5. Either the people through the Electoral College or the Gang of Five.
Hopefully,it'll be the former this time for a Democratic nominee and then we can scrap the Electoral College system and go with a popular vote for the Presidency.This arcane system helps keep this country more fractured along geographical lines.As an example,I,,a liberal Texan,will be casting an essentially worthless vote in Nov.2004.The same can be said of a conservative Bush supporter in New York.Nonetheless,cast it I will.

6. who has the power? You or Gore?
I think the emphasis of the Dean campgain is that "we have the power" to elect who we want. Many of us have been inspired by this message, which has been forcefully delivered by Dr. Dean.

So we have the power to take back our country, and now Gore sees that we have the power, and is supporting that effort.

But I think it is important for Dean supporters to remember that it is "we the people" who have the power. While Gore's support is nice, it is a matter of him coming on board to us, not visa-versa.

Actually, it's important for everybody to remember this. Gore's endorsement was a great thing for Dean but Gore has ONE vote, as we all do. I think it's great that Gore endorsed Dean, but Dean is right.....YOU have the power. Vote for the candidate that inspires YOU in the primary. Vote for the Dem in the general.

8. Ridiculous article
I'm ashamed to see it given space at DU. Saletan's piece is so full of strawmen and other fallacies that one knows not where to start in the deconstruction of it.
