D Kucinich has spent his life fighting for the left and the left-behind
snip>

(12/13/03)

In Congress, Kucinich is well-known as a foe of privatization — a reputation honed in that fight over the electric company. He was villainized then for bringing the city to default on its loans, but also praised for defying a monopoly in the making.

Vindication didn’t come for Kucinich until 1998, when the Cleveland City Council issued a proclamation honoring the congressman for saving city taxpayers more than $200 million.

The tough stand is a Kucinich trademark. Whether it’s opposing the war in Iraq, or NAFTA, or the World Trade Organization, or whether it’s his plan for a cabinet-level Department of Peace, Kucinich never backs down simply because the odds are against him.

In April, as the buds of campaign season were beginning to bloom and American troops were rolling into Iraq, Kucinich gave a speech to a group called Americans for Democratic Action.

He had started the congressional movement to oppose authorization for a war in Iraq. It began with eight votes but eventually won the support of two-thirds of House Democrats.

His speech railed against lockstep endorsement of Bush’s measures in Iraq and of the war on terror. He reclaimed the mantle of patriot for those who disagree with the president.

“We must ask, why should America put aside guarantees of constitutional justice? ... How can we justify canceling the First Amendment?” Kucinich said.

1. great read
I like Dennis' line about preaching to the choir . . .

“The choir is turning out to be bigger than we possibly could have imagined,” said the candidate.

I liked the article. In fact it is a good one to send to people who are investigating him. I just passed it along.

We've Got A Bigger Problem Now

Last call for alcohol.
Last call for your freedom of speech.
Drink up. Happy hour is now enforced by law.
Don't forget our house special, it's called a Trickie Dickie Screwdriver.
It's got one part Jack Daniels, two parts purple Kool-Aid,
and a jigger of formaldehyde
from the jar with Hitler's brain in it we got in the back storeroom.
Happy trails to you. Happy trails to you.

I am Emperor Ronald Reagan
Born again with fascist cravings
Still, you made me president

Human rights will soon go 'way
I am now your Shah today
Now I command all of you
Now you're going to pray in school
I'll make sure they're Christian too

California Uber alles
Uber alles California

Ku Klux Klan will control you
Still you think it's natural
Nigger knockin' for the master race
Still you wear the happy face

You closed your eyes, can't happen here
Alexander Haig is near
Vietnam won't come back you say
Join the army or you will pay

California Uber alles
Uber alles California

Yeah, that's it. Just relax.
Have another drink, few more pretzels, little more MSG.
Turn on those Dallas Cowboys on your TV.
Lock your doors. Close your mind.
It's time for the two-minute warning.

Welcome to 1984
Are you ready for the third world war?!?
You too will meet the secret police
They'll draft you and they'll jail your niece

You'll go quitely to boot camp
They'll shoot you dead, make you a man
Don't you worry, it's for a cause
Feeding global corporations' claws

Die on our brand new poison gas
El Salvador or Afghanistan
Making money for President Reagan
And all the friends of President Reagan

California Uber alles
Uber alles California

6. "Unelectable"
pretty much sums it up.

See also: "Too far left", "unconventional", etc.

I love the guy, personally; all of the criticisms are, as the Deanies might say, poop.

:hurts:

Dean was using the internet and gathering support giving him momentem before the first primary. I like Dennis. I like his message. By the time the PA primary comes along my voting for him won't mean much.

whether we take this election or not. Voting your true heart in the primary always sends a strong message about where we as a country really want to go.

Dennis does always speak from the heart and from the mind so eloquently and knowledgeably that he inspires confidence. He's been in on much of what has been going on in national politics and policies as the co-Chair of the Progressive Caucus and as a member of other subcommitees. He has much more experience, expertise, vision, and the grace to carry out what needs to be done.

Muny Light, IWR, Patriot Act...he had the foresight to see what was right and he did it. Vindicated every single time because he was right!! :)

13. Yes, hippywife
I am still proud of having voted for Jesse Jackson in the Oregon primary in 1988, even though Dukakis already had the nomination sewed up. 39% of Oregon voters felt the same way. I knew that Dukakis was a weak candidate, and that vote was my protest against the Democratic establishment and the media, which had pushed him at the expense of less vulnerable candidates.

7. Kucinich is the real deal
unlike a certain front runner who was forced to seal his records in the face of mounting criticisms about his phoney liberal stance.

Frankly and honestly Dennis is the only democratic candidate I will vote for, and sorry if you disagree with that intent but I will not lend my vote to another sellout.

I agree; the final statement is the kicker:

"The choir is turning out to be bigger than we possibly could have imagined."
