BBC:The American hostility towards Iran~analysis of SOTU
~snip~

One of the notable features of President George W Bush's State of the Union speech was its hostile attitude towards Iran.

References to Iran ran like a drum beat through the speech, adding a wider element to his appeal for support for what he called his "new strategy" in Iraq.

He raised the prospect of a larger conflict in the Middle East in which Iran would be central.

~snip~

Such rhetoric is used partly to lay the blame for the chaos in Iraq on others but it is not just rhetoric. The State of the Union speech is a carefully considered declaration.

The new chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee Senator John Rockefeller, a Democrat, has spoken out against the verbal attacks on Iran and compared them to what happened before the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

"To be quite honest, I'm a little concerned that it's Iraq again," Senator Rockefeller told the New York Times.

11. Then you aren't listening....
and do you hang around a lot of mosques or is that just what you heard on Rush's comedy radio program? You're only hearing what you want to hear, or what the right wing WANTS you to hear, that is.
Enjoy your stay, I have a feeling it won't be for too long. :eyes: Everything you've posted so far sounds like it's come from the White House press release.

14. Hi Hutchewon! Welcome to DU from a fellow NC'er!
I refuse to use our state nickname ("Tar Heels")as it is also the name of a certain team which wears a really ugly shade of light blue...you know who I mean!

9. The Beeb's analysis is spot on
Bush** attempted to distract from the long list of his lies and failures in Iraq with chillingly familiar rhetoric and propaganda, this time aimed at Iran. Destroying countries based on contrived evidence and hysterics over what they might do -- haven't we been here before?

The Iranian people deserve better than Bush**'s notion of "democracy" which seems to be "All who are dead are equal".

13. Implicit in this statement.................
" We could expect an epic battle between Shia extremists backed by Iran, and Sunni extremists aided by al-Qaeda and supporters of the old regime." .............. is the fact it nullifies claims he made in the past that Iran gave safe haven to Al Queda.

What a wanker.
