Harris plunges from belle of inaugural ball

By Frank Cerabino, Palm Beach Post Columnist

There has been a political hit on our good friend Katherine Harris.

You might have figured she had it coming. That the Democrats would get her sooner or later, that there would have to be some kind of political revenge against Harris, the Florida secretary of state who carried the torch for George W. Bush in delivering Florida during the last presidential election.

After all, Harris was a mighty partisan combatant -- a woman who wore her war paint proudly, serving as both Bush's Florida campaign co-chair and the state's senior election official.

-------------snip

The funny part is, though, that the Democrats didn't do the Harris hit. She is being done in by her own people, and in particular by the guy she helped put in the White House.

2. May she wither on the vine
Not smart crossing Karl Rove, Kathleen. She is an awful person who is about to find out what hardball politics are like, Bush-style.

3. I don't get this statement
"The problem is that George W. Bush can't risk sharing a ballot with Harris, his Joan of Arc. It could cost him Florida."

Since she's in the House, she'll be up for reelection in 2004 anyway, so they will be sharing the ballot. The only difference is it won't be statewide - but it will still be news.

6. Visually
the ballots tend to have
Pres/Vp
Major Statewide office (Sen or Gov)
Congress
State senate/state reps
local officials....

If she ran for senate... across every precinct in Florida... Bush's name would be visually aligned with Harris (presumably she would be right under it.)

The damage in her congressional district would be small - a) the name is lower; and b) the district is very heavy republican... even pulling higher dem turnout shouldn't hurt in this district - as it could in other areas of the state.

7. a little dose of political poetic justice...
it does happen from time to time. Then are the BIG doses... like Issa giving MILLIONS for a recall... being pushed out of the race (with tears)... threatening to tell people to vote FOR Davis (against the recall).... and being beat back into line and in the end supporting arnie. Didn't help the save the state from the mysoginator, but one things it will dampen Issa's future ambitions.

I thought they didn't want Harris in the Senate because she would end up on a ticket with JebFRAUD in 2008. Like Cheney she knows where all the bodies are buried. Since it appears that Cheney is really running the show, JebFRAUD feels threatened. Katherine should avoid flying out of those south Florida CIA front airports.

what a satisfying read. what a wonderful moment for Katherine Harris, when she gets to see how much she is really valued by Bush.

I can just see her doing a Tammy Faye, all alone in her room, because her boyfriend is taking someone else to the Senate prom.
