How close is Iran to a nuclear bomb? (BBC)
By Gordon Corera
BBC security correspondent

In the coming days, Iran is expected to make what is being billed as a major announcement on its nuclear programme to coincide with the anniversary of the Iranian revolution.

But just how close is Iran to mastering nuclear technology?

Both Iran and some of its critics may have their own reasons for exaggerating the progress - but the real truth is hard to establish.

In its announcement, Iran may claim to have begun large-scale industrial enrichment of uranium.

But any statement is likely to be as much about political positioning as real technical progress, according to nuclear analysts.

1. Trap
IMHO, Iran is goading the US into taking action, because they can then retaliate and get others onboard to greatly weaken/destroy the US and Israel. Of course, Bush and Cheney will fall into the trap just like they did with Iraq.

3. Are you seriously suggesting that
Iraq or Saddam wanted the US to invade? And that Iran is trying to provoke an attack? Why? Are they just all or mostly crazy Islamofacists who are willing to die to go to Paradise? Israel has nukes and will use them, Olmert said so.

Saddam and Iraq did NOT want the US to invade - in fact, Saddam offered Bushco an eleventh hour deal, that Bush ignored.
No, Bush was goaded by his Iranian advisors to go into Iraq - and of course, he did.

I cannot understand why Iran continues to be provocative - with all the military forces in the Gulf. Why don't they just cool it, until Bush is out of power. No-one except these madmen (Bush/Cheney) would think of attacking Iran - and I do think that Saudi Arabia would be happy if Iran were attacked. Maybe Saudi Arabia is to Iran, what some ex-Iranians were to Iraq.

7. A trap? More like Bush and Cheney pushed an attack.
They didn't want our "freedom" there. If that's still the latest excuse for this war...
