Democratic Voters Growing Impatient with Congress
by Margaret Talev, Renee Schoof and Steven Thomma

CHICAGO - In Washington, Democrats are blaming Republicans for the Senate's failure so far to vote on a resolution opposing a troop increase in Iraq.

But in the heartland, some voters say such excuses no longer are good enough.

Having banked on the promise that Democrats would force a change of course in Iraq if they won control of Congress, some of the people who helped the Democrats get there are growing impatient.

They're frustrated that Democrats sank so much energy into a nonbinding resolution then dropped the bipartisan plan of Sens. John Warner, R-Va., and Carl Levin, D-Mich., like a hot potato when Republican leaders who support President Bush maneuvered them into a corner.

All the finagling has gotten in the way of a formal debate or vote in the Senate on Bush's plans for Iraq. .......(more)

i’m not ready to make nice
i’m not ready to back down
i’m still mad as hell and
i don’t have time to go round and round and round

4. The election was a mandate for change in the Iraq policy
First and foremost. I've been calling and writing both my congresscritter and my senators to remind them. The people spoke loud and clear, now it's their job to deliver.

6. And the lobbying laws, are not encouraging me
We the people, are the ones congress must listen to, not K-Street. The Democratic Party right now has the golden opportunity to rule DC maybe until the next century. Become the party of the people, not the rich white guys!

8. Let them burn
If the Republicans want to make things difficult then let them burn. Everyone saw what happened in the November elections. If it was the Democrats slowing things down then the Republicans would be all over it saying that the Democrats are terrorist hugging pansies who want to destroy America. The Democrats should respond in kind, strongly. Don't get bullied anymore. We want them to fight so they should. This isn't the time for political maneuvering. This is the time to take the advantage and run with it and if you can't then go to the press and blast everyone in your path. It is the Republicans who got us here. Time to start yelling that at the top of our collective lungs.

9. Please remember that the Senate is not really under dem control.
They have an ertswhile majority which has enabled them to set the agenda. However, Johnson is not there to vote and Lieberman is supporting the surge. We must let them do what they can. The House has more power and leverage and seems ready to capitalize on it.
