PRINCE GEORGE'S SCHOOLS
Aunt's Whipping of Boy in Class Investigated

By Nelson Hernandez
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, February 27, 2007; Page B02

Prince George's County public schools officials are investigating an incident in which the aunt of a second-grader at a county charter school ordered him to remove his pants and underwear and whipped him in front of his teacher and classmates Friday.

Kenneth Jones, principal of Turning Point Academy in Lanham, a charter school founded last year, acknowledged in a letter to the regional superintendent that the incident had taken place. Jones said the aunt would write a letter of apology to the parents of the students in the class.

.......

Reitan's daughter was shocked: "She cannot stop talking about . . . how disgusting it was to watch. . . . In my opinion, this event will never be forgotten by my daughter."

2. The aunt is not the boys guardian
"The last time mom had been called to the school, she warned that the next time she was called to the school, she was going to give him a whooping in front of the entire class," Reitan wrote in the e-mail. "That is precisely what the aunt did. . . . She had stand in the middle of the classroom before all his classmates. He was told to pull down his pants and his underpants. He was then beaten with a belt by his aunt."

Beaten with a belt?

I am sick and goddamned tired of such violence being perpetrated against children. What has happened to our society? This woman needs to be put away for a very long time. And the boy needs to be taken away from his parents if they allow his aunt to go into a classroom and beat their child.

4. I am constantly amazed by arguements used to justify
people beating their kids. Then they look at you like you're the one that is nuts when you call them on it.

5. Exactly! This was not a soft pat on the butt to let him know he did something wrong
this woman used a belt to beat him. Can I use a belt to beat her? I would be arrested so what is the difference? At least I would be picking on someone my own size instead of a small child...

6. And you know if it had been 2 kids doing this to each other,
S.W.A.T teams would have been brought in, the school locked down and prosecutors would be urgning the courts to try them as adults.

3. The article said the teacher didn't know it was going to happen...
but once it started the teacher could have stopped it. I can't imagine why the aunt ordered the child to remove his pants and underpants in front of the class, what the hell is wrong with people.

8. You are so right....
if I were a teacher and saw someone starting to remove a childs pants in the classroom, I would have stopped it then and there.

11. I know. Can you imagine? I would even try to stop if if I saw a stranger
do it in the shopping mall. But this was the teacher's classroom, and she was IN CHARGE.

Unbelievable.

10. spanking your kids is one thing, but the sexual humiliation angle puts it in the criminal range
this woman should be in jail.

Some of my white trash relatives used to do this, but to my knowledge, never did it at school in front of other kids.

How does that kid sit in class with everyone else after that?
