(Albuquerque Tribune) Editorial: Iglesias Affair reveals uglier side of politics
U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici, one half of New Mexico's Silent Twosome, has acknowledged he made a call to then-U.S. Attorney David Iglesias, asking about the status of a pending corruption scandal amid the backdrop of a highly contested congressional race.

...snip...

Albuquerque Republicans Domenici and U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson, now ducking alone behind the crumbling parapet of silence, no longer can wag their fingers at Democrats, clucking their tongues at the way powerful politicians do their jobs.

...snip...

In an administration accused of manipulating intelligence in a rush to war, outing a CIA agent whose husband took issue with the case for that war, and even of secretly paying journalists to get its political message out, the latest episode of fired U.S. attorneys warns that politics has routinely trumped the law and common decency.

Congress should leave no stone unturned and allow no cover for any Democrats or Republicans who would place their own political survival, their party, their president or their wallets above the law.

Domenici at least had the grace to say what happened. We'll see if Wilson's silence is deafening.
