George Bush: Man of the Decade
GEORGE BUSH: MAN OF THE DECADE
31 minutes ago By Richard Reeves

DALLAS -- With all due respect to two great institutions, the U.S. military and Time magazine, the latter got it wrong when it picked the former as its "Person of the Year" for 2003. President George W. Bush (news - web sites) was the person of the year, perhaps of the decade and more.

That man in the White House, the commander in chief of the 1.4 million American soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen, changed the world for better or worse when he sent American troops into action in Iraq (news - web sites). Time calls our military "the bright sharp instrument of a blunt policy." But the policy is the story. The president decided to roll the dice, and we are the dice -- the men and women in uniform more than the rest of us.

The president is a bold, decisive and overconfident crusader, a self-righteous leader, a dangerous man. He changed the rules, ignoring the post-World War II history of alliances, multilateral institutions and containment. His rationale for the invasion of Iraq is called "pre-emptive war" in the White House and "preventive war" in other capitals. But, in fact, it is more than that.

2. right --he is absolutely the worst president who ever decided to coup
an election. He is an absolute coward. He deserves to be hung from his own petard--he is totally the puppet of those who would use him to fool the public. He is an ass. LOL

And I will add, so is his frump-o-lump fat assesd stupid Stepford, hanger on, wife whom we are continually being asked to support in spite of her stupid , inane, vapid comments. Ugh
\
Can we please really elect a real person the next time around, instead of a manufactured, photo-oped coward and his equally stupid and vacant wife?

7. Is Richard Reeves not a conservative?
That's my recollection, certainly.

That would make this all the more compelling, in fact.

Thanks for the post, deek.

10. Reeves has been against Shrub
for the past two years at the very least. That's the most I can vouch for, as that's when I discovered his work. He's also written quite critically on Nixon too.

Or was that Richard Reeve? Ugh, it's so hard to keep all those conservatives straight.

14. actually, what you wrote ...
It's funny the way people who hate THEIR President lose all sense of intelligence and reasonable thought. It's also very disturbing to see people letting blind hatred getting in the way of intelligent thought. I feel sorry for people that don't realize and appreciate how blessed they are to live in this country.

could easily be apply to the whining, hateful Freepers during the booming Clinton years

19. Flawed and disturbing
You equate hatred of the president with hatred of America. Your logic is flawed.

We display our utter contempt for Bush because we LOVE America, and hate what his administration is doing to it. This is not blind hatred; it is based on the real damage being done to our national security, economy, and environment.

Bush exploited the 9/11 atrocity to pursue an agenda far more radical than the "compassionate conservatism" he advertised. He lied to Congress and the American people in matters of war, and anyone who pointed this out was attacked as being unpatriotic.

What's disturbing is that so many Americans, yourself apparently included, support THEIR president rather than their country.

24. What also galls Americans
is that the President's oath of office is to protect the Constitution, not some PNAC wet dream. From day one, Bush* has only served those who contributed to his campaign.

I do not hate George W. Bush*. I hate his policies, his actions, and his smug attitude toward those he considers to be less than him.

And I hate that he always uses the pronoun "I" when talking about our country, and not "we".

It's "We the People", not, "I, the Glorious Leader"...

15. The bigger they are...
The harder they fall.

Its only 3 years into it, a bit soon to be calling the moran chimp the person of the decade, no? He's going to fall harder and farther than Nixon ever did long before 2010.

17. if this guy was true to his assertions, he would have said Saddam Hussein
because Hussein was the prime motivator for all the actions the US undertook and all the subsequent problems

UNLESS it is this guy's contention that Bush is man of the year because he's a lying murderer who hoodwinked the American people.

I can imagine them eagerly digging in to another column praising their guy, then their disappointment when they find out what it's about. :-)

23. so we got "rolled"
That pretty much sums it up. How about the biggest Mancrook of the decade? Some adjectives fit better than simply adding praise to being the biggest whatever. But for all that their is a deliberate hollowness of responsibility that will be paraded out if ever a grand jury threatenes the bonnie prince. He is neither architect nor prime mover. it would be hard to pin it on anyone- as it should be when running a criminal operation.
