Gonzales says he has "nothing to hide"
Gonzales says he has "nothing to hide" By HOPE YEN and LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writers
1 minute ago

WASHINGTON - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Sunday he has done nothing improper in the firings of eight federal prosecutors in testimony prepared for his appearance before a Senate panel widely viewed as a last chance to save his job.

"I have nothing to hide," Gonzales said in a statement released Sunday.

But two Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee said Gonzales has an uphill battle in convincing the public he can lead the Justice Department.

Two days before Gonzales is to make a showdown appearance before Congress, Sen. Arlen Specter (news, bio, voting record), R-Pa., said none of Gonzales' public statements so far has convinced him that the department's ouster of eight U.S. attorneys was justified.

In an op-ed Sunday in the Washington Post, Gonzales apologized for the handling of the matter, including a series of misstatements about his exact role that he acknowledged "created confusion." But Gonzales maintained that "nothing improper" occurred.

2. "including a series of misstatements about his exact role ...."
No those were lies, Alberto.

Have fun w/ Pat Leahy, Alberto ..... he is a better lawyer then you will ever be and
he was a prosecutor too.

"Leahy was born in Montpelier, Vermont to Irish-American father Howard Francis Leahy (a printer; d. 1984) and
Italian-American mother Alba Zambon (1909-1996); he has a brother, John, and a sister, Mary. Leahy graduated
from Saint Michael's College in 1961 and received his J.D. degree from Georgetown University in 1964. He practiced
as a lawyer until he was elected for four terms as State's Attorney of Chittenden County from 1966 to 1974. Leahy
was elected to the United States Senate for the first time in 1974, and has been re-elected for the following five terms.
Leahy was only the second Democrat ever elected to Congress from Vermont, and the first Democratic Senator from
that state."

3. Well that explains the hours and hours of rehearsal
that he has been doing for the last two weeks. Was it Spencer Tracy that said something about Sincerity, "Once you can fake that you've got it made"?
