Just Off The Phone With Al Gore -- With Special Note To Tony Snow (1 comments )

Al Gore has a new book out today, "The Assault On Reason." I won't spoil the ending for you but let's just say that the wrong guy wins, through some dubious methods, the United States is plunged into a pre-emptive war, a record surplus becomes a record deficit and well, you've heard the rest.

Today, Al Gore reached out and had a conference call with some bloggers (the call was on the record) and here's some of the highlights.

He was witty, friendly and answered question after question. He quoted Johnny Cash.

He responded to Tony Snow's demand that he fact-check the book.

"Unlike the President's State Of The Union Address, this book was actually fact-checked."

Another one of his biggest points:

What do the climate crisis and the invasion of Iraq have in common?

...(snip)...

Al Gore is probably too decent a man to run for The White House again. Who else do you know that can recite how George Washington first spoke out against torture?

He is smart, passionate and truly cares about the country and the world. He wrote this book and embarked on this crusade against global warming because it is the right thing to do, not part of a calculated game of hidden political agenda.

As he said on the call, "I put my heart and soul in this book. I love this country." He meant it too.

But here's what I see as the light at the end of the tunnel. Al Gore knows his history. He knows that at times throughout history, the country has called for sacrifice and service and great Americans, and Al Gore is certainly one of those, great Americans answer the call.

Al Gore will answer the call. But we have to call. And we should. In a real, personal authentic way.

If you believe in Al Gore, and his mission, send him a letter.

5. Just so we remember the ones held back, I wear black...

Dealing with the U.S. media is like falling down, down, down into a burning ring of fire...

He's always been a populist - like Cash...

11. "The Man In Black" by Johnny Cash
Well, you wonder why I always dress in black?
Why you never see bright colors on my back?
And why does my appearance Seem to have a sombre tone?
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town
I wear it for the prisoner Who has long paid for his crime
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those, who've never read
Or listened to the words, that Jesus said
About the road to happiness, through love and charity
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose
In our streak-of-lightnin' cars and fancy clothes
But just so we're reminded of, the ones who are held back
Up front there oughta be a man in black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old
For the reckless ones, whose bad trip left them cold
I wear the black in mournin', for the lives that could have been
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And I wear it for the thousands who have died
Believin' that the Lord was on their side
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died
Believin' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right, I know
And things need changin' ev'rywhere you go
But 'til we start to make a move, to make a few things right
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Aw! I'd love to wear a rainbow every day
And tell the world that ev'rything's OK
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back
'Til things are brighter I'm the man in black

4. Boyce will make sure letters are placed squarely in front of him... Really?
Al Gore will answer the call. But we have to call. And we should. In a real, personal authentic way.

If you believe in Al Gore, and his mission, send him a letter.

The Honorable Al Gore
2100 West End Avenue
Suite 620
Nashville, TN 37203

I'll make sure they all get stacked up, put in a pile and placed squarely in front of him. I promise.

8. Al, none of the faithful care a whit about any of this: all supporters would rather have a dictator
of their own with all these monstrous warts, lesions, and tumors rather than the constitutional Republic once called the land of the free and home of the brave.
