How Does George Bush Sleep at Night?
by Cenk Uygur | Jun 5 2007 -

Iraq has become a case study in anarchy. I don't know how George Bush sleeps at night. You'd have to be a monster to rest easy, knowing what he's done. I'm not sure one man's sloth has ever caused so much harm. My God man, if you didn't want to be president, why did you apply for the job?

What a hideous combination of conceits Bush has. He has the ego that drives him to want to be the top man. He has the arrogance to think that he his qualified. But he has the laziness that makes him not want to actually do the job. He has the insecurity that makes him want to cover up his faults. He has the smallness of character that will not concede his weaknesses and seek out help. He has the hubris to think that he could cover up all this, run the world into the ground and think that people won't notice. How has the world fallen into the grasp of this tiny, tiny man?

George W. Bush is the perfect storm of character flaws. Not only does he bring all of these horrible traits together at once, but he does at the worst possible time in the worst possible position. The president of the United States of America has to be the most competent person on earth. And somehow the exact opposite has snuck in to that role.

For the love of all that is holy and important, let us please pick the most competent person next time for this position. I don't want to have a beer with our next president. I want him or her to be intellectually superior to me. They should be the best among us, not appeal to the worst in us. They have to be smart, hard working, full of character and perhaps, above all, be someone that cares about the job.

As much as Lyndon Johnson screwed up Vietnam, at least he had the dignity to care. Look at what has happened to Iraq. Look at this picture, for the love of God, look at this picture, what have we done?

Little girls with shrapnel in their faces, charred bodies at every crossroad, mass graves at universities, bullet riddled, tortured bodies in the street. The country has been ripped apart at the seams. I've never seen such ugliness before in my life. And we are sheltered from it here. Could you imagine if we saw the actual carnage every day and every night?

We couldn't live with ourselves. What we did to Iraq is inexcusable. Yet there is one simple, blithe man up top who gaily walks about as if he doesn't have a care in the world. If George Bush can sleep at night, he really must be a monster.

1. Ambien. At least according to Colin Powell a few years ago.
He said everyone at the White House used it.

3. If you drink enough alcohol, you eventually pass out, don't you?
I would guess this is *s preferred method of inducing sleep.

The picture of that girl is very upsetting. She does not deserve what has been forced upon her. The innocent people are the ones paying the highest price for this war. It's so very sad.

9. I'm not sure what a soicopath is, but
it it's anything like a psychopath, then I agree. The best way to avoid having your conscience disturb you is not to have a conscience. Bush has never done or said anything that I would consider to be evidence of a capacity for empathy or remorse or concern for anyone other than himself. The man is a monster. He's the guy Cleckley wrote that book about.

19. Hervey Cleckley, _The Mask of Sanity_
The first modern exposition of the psychopathic personality. Still a great classic, the book Robert Hare used as his jumping-off point. Get it, read it if you want to really know what psychopathy is all about.

16. you nailed it. No conscience, lack of empathy, selfish
I think psychopath is a layman's term for sociopath's who actively want to hurt people as opposed to just harming them incidentally like sociopaths do.

18. LOL! Love that name...so true! I'm a Lunesta girl myself.

The husband loves Ambien, though, and has absolutely no problems whatsoever.

On topic, * sleeps very well because he is convinced that he is right to do what he is doing, no matter what the means or consequences. He's like Hitler, flooding the river Spree in 1945. So what if the wounded and the refugees are living there? It's for the Homeland. Lives are unimportant.

8. He sleeps the sleep of the man in the bubble.
The shiny interior walls just reflect his own face back at him.

Nothing and no one can touch him there.

10. He IS a monster
He doesn't give a rat's ass about anyone other than Laura, Barney, Cheney, and his rich corporate buddies.
Once that fucker is put in jail, he should be forced to look at pictures such as these.
Those poor, innocent victims. What they are going through is horrible, just horrible.

11. How has the world fallen into the grasp of this tiny, tiny man?
That's the key question. With the arsenal this country has, we have to ask, how do we prevent it from happening again? I think the only answer is that we have to get rid of our arsenal, or one day, one of these tiny, tiny men will use it to blow up the world.

21. I often ask how this man lives with himself?
There is certainly no answer I could give. For most of us, we could not even fathom the cruelty , pain, suffering, and destruction the Iraqi people have had to endure. For anyone with an ounce of compassion, to look at these images is heartbreaking. Everything about this war is sick, sick, sick!

How in the world did we come to this? How did this alcoholic, idiot, pseudo cowboy, loser, who never even had a steady job till his 40's and can't even put an intelligent sentence together come to inhabit the most important job in the world?

Another question; how do the people that voted for him sleep at night?

22. They surround themselves with the myths they need
Bush supporters snuggle down with some Faux Noise, a little Bill-O, and a smattering of Glenn Beck. These equally amoral creeps feed their fears and prejudices so these stupid fools all think that Dim Son is doing the right thing--keeping us safe from the evil terra-rists.

In the immortal words of from Forest Gump, "Stupid is as stupid does."

When our brains are full of American Idol, Paris Hilton, and Anna Nicole Smith and we have NO CLUE what's going on in the world, we end up picking a total soul-less moron as president because corporate America sold him to us.

Arrogance, ignorance, a short attention span, and too selfish to care what people think.
