Lynne Cheney, Susan Thomas floated as possible replacements for late Sen. Craig Thomas


Lynne Cheney, wife of Vice President Dick Cheney, is being floated in Senate GOP leadership circles as a possible replacement for the late Sen. Craig Thomas (R-Wyo.), who died Monday night. Susan Thomas, the late senator's wife, has also been mentioned by Senate Republicans as a potential choice to take over for her husband, as well as former Justice Department official Tom Sansonetti.

One GOP insider said Lynne Cheney had been in Washington "too long" to be acceptable to the Wyoming GOP, despite her long resume, although that would change if Cheney were to return to Wyoming on a full-time basis. Susan Thomas is reportedly not interested in serving out her husband's term.

Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) and Dick Cheney, who attends the regular Tuesday policy luncheon by Senate Republicans, were spotted talking yesterday afternoon, but Enzi said Lynne Cheney was not discussed. In fact, Enzi said, he is not involved in any discussions related to Thomas' replacement..



"I talk to Dick Cheney any chance I can get," Enzi said on Wednesday. "But not about that."

...Wyoming has a Democratic governor.

there's plenty of precident for that.

Hillary Clinton is not my candidate in the primaries. But my first thought upon reading this news about Lynn Cheney was the comparison of Dem's and Republican's reactions. The Repubs would be freaking out if Hillary was suggested for such an appointment.

Just sayin'.

Can you imagine the right-wing uproar if (God forbid) something were to happen to Hillary while still a Senator, and Bill was the suggested replacement?

I can hear the sound of popping right-wing heads as I speak.
