That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

In the 2006 elections. The American people elected the democrats to office. With majorities in both houses for one reason. To end the Iraq War. Last week they had a chance to take the first step in doing so. They failed. In fact it seems they conspired against the will of the people.

In case you believe the malarkey being spewed by the House Rules Committee about the rule vote yesterday not really being the vote to give President Bush a blank check, take a look at the Washington Post and the Associated Press today. I reported this at the beginning of the day yesterday and was then criticized by House Rules Committee Chairwoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY). Now, though, it seems at least some major news organizations have caught on that I was exactly right.

Here's the thing... We knew the dems would not have a veto proof majority. That's OK. Loosing to Bush on a veto when you stand tall and represent is honourable. Having closed door meetings where you conspire against those who elected you is pathetic.

Here's the Associated Press:

"In a highly unusual maneuver, House Democratic leaders crafted a procedure that allowed their rank and file to oppose money for the war, then step aside so Republicans could advance it."

And here's the worst part of it all - Democrats are now bragging about it. Not only have they sent out a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraising email attempting to confuse voters by claiming with a straight face that they really stood up to President Bush. But most insulting of all, they are actually running to reporters to pat themselves on the back for engineering a procedural pirouette designed to confuse the public.

Susan at the Head On Radio Network said the following;

The American voter isn't stupid. We understand about not having the votes to override a veto. We understand!

What we will NEVER understand and will NEVER forgive is the betrayal of the American people by the Democratic party. You were put in Congress for one basic issue–get us out of Iraq. Instead you funded it.

It's a great Op Ed. It sums things up beautifully.

Is it time yet? I ask this question very seriously! The American democracy was hijacked in 2000 by voter fraud, hackable voting machines, and the Supreme Court! I thought that would be enough! But no.

Now we find ourselves in a never ending war. Unjustified, Illegal, Dangerous, not to mention we were lied into it! Many saw through the bullshit before it started and screamed, "Where is the debate! The W.M.D. claims are false! Why Iraq? They didn't attack us!"

The current administration is criminal. It's illegitimate. And the Vice President is profiting off the war directly!

Our once free nation is now a police state. Does a national I.D. make you feel safer?

We the People of these United States elected the democrats into office to represent our overwhelming desire to end this criminal escapade! Now you have betrayed us! The time is now for a Second American Revolution! I for one believe we have little other choice given the state of things.

...but nobody has the BALLS to do anything except order more latte.
Suggestive recourse to change things is even scraped from this site.

2. For some strange reason,
I re read the Declaration of Independence on July 7, 2003.

I was overwhelmingly astounded by the striking similarities between the complaints of the colonists against King George back then, to the complaints of progressives against the ever incurious George dubious.

Line by line, the circumstances were mind blowing to me then.

May resurrect that writing for the anniversary.

They only thing that really matters is what we have now is taxation without representation.

With hackable voting technology and a corporately controlled press and legislature, that's unlikely to change real soon.

But ya never know.

3. aging
It's hard to whip up mass support for a full-fledged revolution, when such a large proportion of the populace is already retired or preparing for retirement. Even with nearly universal disappointment/disgust with the current regime, an aging population presents a roadblock to radical change. There is an underlying conservatism that won't go away.

4. It is becoming painfully apparent that rebellion and revolution...........
may be our ONLY course of action left. Thankfully our forefathers knew one day that 'bushco' would rule and gave 'US' directions on what to do about it and ordered 'US' to do it!

5. No. I sympathize with the thought behind the proposal, but...

I think it's a dangerous idea with unknown consequences (as in Iraq).
