Attack Of the Mini Penis

Lordy lordy save us! Fist it was terrorist’s threats and North Korean atomic bombs. Global warming illegal immigration but now this! The attack of the mini Penis! A German children’s book has created a firestorm not seen since “Heather has two Mommies.” At first the publishing house was Hildesheimer Gerstenberg was excited by the prospect of cracking the lucrative American market.

But then the American publisher Boyds Mills Press asked for just a few minor changes reminiscent of this won’t hurt. First, all smokers had to be removed, but then in a scene, taking place in an art gallery there is a picture on the wall of a nude woman. Keep in mind this is a cartoon book for preschoolers not last months Hustler magazine. But American children cannot be allowed to view such blatant obscenity. But that was only the beginning, the root of the problem was a seven millimeter tall statue of a man, a cartoon man, an anatomically correct cartoon man.

So just how anatomically correct is this dangerous penis? Remember “Where’s Waldo?” Well finding Willie is only possible by prior geographic location. Those of us over forty will need our glasses but it’s as big as life to some.

The author, not surprisingly, considers the request to be absurd. The statue's mini-willie, the author points out, is hardly even a half-millimeter long. And the naked woman hanging on the wall? Hardly a realistic depiction of the female anatomy. The US publisher was embarrassed to ask for the changes, but was even more afraid of how American parents might react if junior were exposed to such pornography.

Just imagine the ramifications of American Children exposed to half a millimeter long cartoon penises. Perhaps Tinky Winky might get excited or Barney would blush but 99% of children would never notice it and if they did congratulations you have and extremely observant child. A child so smart that he or she will probably figure out the relaxing clean air standards and running huge deficits will hurt him or her more than little cartoon penis’s. It’s the real ones that grow up to be President that you have to watch out for they are dangerous

1. Haven't they read In the Night Kitchen
by Maurice Sendack? There are several pictures of a naked little boy in it. Yep, caused a sensation when it was published years ago, but as far as I know, its still on bookshelves.

7. yep
i spent time at a danish children's 'playhouse'. my friend had different areas for different activities. had a pile of books and i found one book on french burlesque. LOTS of nekkid womens, but was basically ignored. why look at then when there are mice! and toys and and and.

of course the publisher is worried about easily offended.

8. We have bare breasts in newspapers here
Well, I say "newspapers" but it's The Sun which is halfway between the National Front and the National Enquirer a lot of the time but no-one has raised much of a fuss about the topless models in years (and they now have a beefy male too).

It just baffles me. We only legalised hardcore porn a few years ago here but for as long as I can remember, you could stroll into any doctor's office and get rubbers for free (or the pill if you had a brief healthcheck first). We occasionally have full-frontal nudity on terrestrial (network) TV (although interestingly, much less than we once did). Hardcore porn is sold in most newsagents and no-one bats an eyebrow and yet, in the US, where you actually have free expression guarenteed in your constitution (which we didn't until very recently), the entire nation seems to suffer from this bizarre maddonna/whore complex; like the only time you're allowed to say that you enjoy sex is when you're on a tv show that's the televised equivelant of a stoning (I'm thinking especially of Ricki Lake although similar comments apply to most of the genre).

I just don't get it. Sex doesn't have to be this complicated. I often saw my parents naked as a child, doesn't seem to have done me any harm.
