Hillary Clinton: Ice Princess
by Bob Burnett | Jul 25 2007

snip//

Soon the newcomer had raised enough money that he posed a real threat to the chances of the princess. Polls showed that when voters got to know him, they liked him. The newcomer had a broad base of support that extended to voters from the other Party, as well as Independents.

The princess asked her advisers how she should respond to this brash newcomer. They pointed out that she was experienced in national politics and he was not. They advised her to point this out at every opportunity, imply that it was dangerous to trust the presidency to an inexperienced candidate. The princess accepted this advice and held it, like a knife, close to her heart.

One day, the princess and the newcomer participated in a TV debate. The newcomer was asked what seemed like an innocent question: If he was elected president would he be wiling to meet, within his first year in office, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea. The newcomer responded with a principle: "I would... the notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them -- which has been the guiding diplomatic principle of this administration -- is ridiculous."

The princess saw this as an opportunity to blast the newcomer's inexperience. She interpreted his response as a commitment to talk to these leaders without doing the necessary preparatory work and said, "I will not promise to meet with the leader of these countries during my first year. I will promise a very vigorous diplomatic effort, because I think it is not that you promise a meeting at that high a level before you know what the intentions are. I don't want to be used for propaganda purposes." It was a cheap shot, but effective.

Then the princess made a mistake. Buoyed by the positive news coverage that her remarks had generated, she expanded upon them. She called the newcomer's response, "irresponsible and frankly naïve." The princess chose to personally attack the newcomer.

Many observers feel that this will ultimately work against the princess. First, to many voters it will look like the princess is afraid to talk to the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea. Second, many voters will see the personal attack as gratuitous. Third, it indicates that of all her possible adversaries she fears the newcomer the most. And finally, many who already had suspicions about the princess will view her remarks as evidence that she has a heart of ice.

wants to win--that's what candidates do--duh! He'll do the same. It's called "politics"--no need to villify either of them for taking fair shots.

edit to add--not addressing this to the messenger, just the message.

20. Read the article. It's about one taking cheap shots at the other.
Guess which one.

6. I've noticed quite a few articles leave out a very important
word. "PROMISE" - the questioner said "would you promise....."
Only an idiot would promise anything this far from 2009.

President Clinton. Get used to it AGAIN.

7. Get Used to It ... Is that the same as Get Over It?
Where have I heard that kind of irrational, bullying talk before?

Wait, wait, I've almost got it...something about a personality cult...

12. Bob Burnett is
a Berkeley writer, activist, and Quaker. Before starting a second career as a journalist, he was a technologist and one of the founding executives at Cisco Systems.

It's his opinion, which is where this stuff supposedly goes. I'm an equal opportunity poster and haven't made up my mind yet, but people are sure touchy.

And FWIW, I'm sure Senator Clinton has heard it all before.

I'll post a scather about Obama next to make everybody happy.;-)

13. Not bashing you.
"Ice princess" has connotations that anyone of my generation would find annoying when applied to any woman.

to anyone for those connotations, I apologize for posting it.

Considering who he seems to be. Nevertheless, he should not have done that.

22. What is GD?
Sorry to ask a silly Q, but what is it? I've seen it posted around, but have no clue what it's referencing.

Also thanks for bringing this to our attention Babylonsister. We need to keep out eyes open for this kind of crap.
I don't think this was done by ayone officially in the Obama camp, this is probably just more RW propaganda because they F E A R Hillary! or at least that's what they want us to think.

Thanks as always.
