He Surgically Alters Thumbs To Better Use iPhone
This Guy Is The Ultimate Fanboy

http://northdenvernews.com/content/view/922/2

Thomas Martel, 28, of Bonnie Brae is a big guy. So he has a hard time using the features on ever-shrinking user interfaces on devices like his new iPhone. At least, he did, until he had his thumbs surgically altered in a revolutionary new surgical technique known as "whittling."

"From my old Treo, to my Blackberry, to this new iPhone, I had a hard time hitting the right buttons, and I always lost those little styluses," explains Martel. "Sure, the procedure was expensive, but when I think of all the time I save by being able to use modern handhelds so much faster, I really think the surgery will pay for itself in ten to fifteen years. And what it's saving me in frustration - that's priceless."

"This is really, on the edge sort of stuff," explains Dr. Robert Fox Spars, who worked on developing the procedure. "We're turning plastic surgery from something that people use in service of vanity, to a real tool for improving workplace efficiency."

1. He's gonna really be thankful when the economy implodes
and he has to use those bitty thumbs to forage for nuts and berries.

2. He should have had an Apple logo tattooed on his forehead while he was at it.
Now I wonder if I can get this Bluetooth headset surgically implanted...

What a fucking idiot. They will probably have thought control devices within five years. He's gonna feel like a dumbass.

Does he think that technology will simply stand still now that we have the iphone?

9. Literally, the Bleeding Edge...
That's just like my friend, Bob Sakamano, who had his fingers whittled down to make using the rotary phone easier to use (and therefore, more productive) back in the seventies. Nowadays, he has an easier time picking his nose, but that's about it.

14. Dubious ...
Edited on Sat Aug-11-07 04:01 AM by muriel_volestrangler
Tech sites around the Web swiftly picked up this story and repeated it as fact. I dunno, maybe it was the Onion-esque headline. Or maybe it was the fact that the iPhone doesn't have tiny little buttons, or maybe it was the closing quote ("Opening spaghetti sauce jars has been a problem. That was a big surprise.") Anyway, I just didn't buy it.

Which turns out to be a good thing. I did some quick fact-checking: there's no Dr. Robert Fox Spars listed in the Denver phone directory. I called the North Denver News and asked for the writer, James Benfly. He hasn't called back, but the story no longer appears on the NDN Web site (though the headline on the home page is still there).

Now, Information Week is wrong about the story disappearing; but it is true that James Benfly doesn't appear to have written any news story on the web apart from this one; "Robert Fox Spars" or "Robert Spars" doesn't appear in a Google search apart from this story; and it would be, as everyone has noted, an incredibly stupid thing to do. I have my doubts this is real.

16. The iPhone is Cool and All
But Can You Stick Your Dick in It?

http://jezebel.com/gossip/iphone-widow/the-iphone-is-cool-and-all-but-can-you-stick-your-dick-in-it-288400.php

I used to have a boyfriend. He was actually perfect: cute, funny, thoughtful, lots of chemistry, pulled my hair at all the right times. He was, for a period, even attentive--that is, until June 29, 2007, when the iPhone went on sale. And just like that, homewrecking Steve Jobs took my man away from me.
