Live by the sword, die by the sword, especially in politics.
But when key political support figures that prop up leaders decide to fall on their swords prematurely, that poses some serious questions.
Karl Rove's teary fare-thee-well statement on the South Lawn yesterday has drawn more questions than answers on why, exactly, he is leaving the Bush presidency so early.
The GOP guru and "brain" who Bush fondly referred to as his "turd blossom" was largely responsible for President Bush's rise to power and subsequently, the fall guy taking the blame for the President's loss of support.
"I'm grateful to have been a witness to history," said Rove, leaving Bush to spend his last 17 months in office without his favorite "turd."
Rove, 56, hugged Bush on the White House lawn and said they first discussed his plans to resign last summer to spend more time with his family. "It always seemed there was a better time to leave somewhere out there in the future, but now is the time," Rove lamented. Bush called Rove "a dear friend.
Rove was the one who leaked the name of outed ex-CIA spy Valerie Plame.
