Fighting wrong enemy in cancer 'war'
Great author interview regarding the new book "The Secret History of the War on Cancer"

This book is bound to be "controversial" for the truths it tells about some very large corporations. I'd suspected this was the case for years, especially since I found out a few years ago that from age 4 to 9 I lives less than a mile from one of THREE EPA "Superfund" sites in my hometown in Indiana where all our short lived Cats died of cancerous stomach tumors.

Fighting wrong enemy in cancer 'war'

Author Devra Davis says in her new book, The Secret History of the War on Cancer, we're going about it the wrong way -- treating the disease, while all but ignoring the lifestyle and environmental factors that lead to a greater risk of getting cancer in the first place.

Book Description
From the National Book Award finalist, author of When Smoke Ran Like Water, a searing, haunting and deeply personal account of the War on Cancer.
The War on Cancer set out to find, treat, and cure a disease. Left untouched were many of the things known to cause cancer, including tobacco, the workplace, radiation, or the global environment. Proof of how the world in which we live and work affects whether we get cancer was either overlooked or suppressed.

This has been no accident.

The War on Cancer was run by leaders of industries that made cancer-causing products, and sometimes also profited from drugs and technologies for finding and treating the disease. Filled with compelling personalities and never-before-revealed information, The Secret History of the War on Cancer

shows how we began fighting the wrong war, with the wrong weapons, against the wrong enemies--a legacy that persists to this day.

This is the gripping story of a major public health effort diverted and distorted for private gain.

A portion of the profits from this book will go to support research on cancer prevention.

1. yes and there are many natural cures that are illegal or hush hush here.
Such as ozone, H2O2, baking soda, colloidal silver, Essiac tea, The Dr. Johanna Budwig diet, and Vitamin C as sodium ascorbate. And cancer salves.

People use them by the thousands in other countries. But the are not allowed here, or you'll lose your license.

Too cheap and simple for the drug cos. to make money on.

There's a documentary on Google about medical uses of ozone.

3. Three Months Ago
I would have dismissed this thread as being kookie and probably wouldn't have read it. Now I'm interested. Why, a personal health crisis that resulted in surgery. Thank God, cancer was not involved.

Just before the surgery my wife suggested that I go to a acupuncturists who also was a nutritionist. Two hours later I walked out with a greater understanding of "We are what we eat". Not only does the food we consume have effects but medicines both over the counter and prescription have their ramifications.

Growth hormones are fed to cattle and milk herds to increase production. For the most part they are estrogen based. Investigate the the relationship of estrogen and growth of cancer. Herbicides and pesticides are used on crops up to just before harvesting. Read the warnings on the home and garden varieties you have in your home.

Further reading has me well aware of the 15,000 or so chemical compounds we are exposed to and are absorbing into our bodies. Some of these compounds are being passed to newborn babies through mothers milk. FDA has tested a minuscule number of these compounds for effects on the human body, adult and children.

4. Not all cancer is caused by mutagenic or tetragenic substances. Cancer is
the bodies mounting inability to detect & remove that which is "other" as the organism ages. Which is why the majority of cancer occurs at the end of life, in a society where people live long enough to reach the geriatric years.

5. Cancer cells exist
in the body from early in life. They are controlled by the body and recognized as other or wrong. At some point, regardless of age, the body fails to recognize them as wrong and they begin to grow and multiply uncontrolled. There are many causes of this including the break down of the body as one ages but outside factors such as chemicals seem to have a big impact.
