Reid dismissive of Kucinich (link of audio included)
Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 11:04 PM by ursi
WASHINGTON _ Ok, this might not be a shocker: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid does not think Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich has a chance at becoming president. But more telling, during an interview Reid did this month with Christiane Brown on KJFK-AM in Reno, was the extent to which the senator dismissed the congressman’s presidential bid. Listen for yourself. http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/30185

“I’m not a Kucinich fan,” Reid told the host. “He has about as much chance of being elected president as this computer I’m looking at.”

Reid’s vow of neutrality in the presidential primaries apparently does not extend to the Democratic candidates he doesn’t foresee gaining the White House.

When pressed if the problem was Kucinich’s elect-ability or something else, Reid explained: “I’m not a fan for him because I think his programs are something that the American people would simply not accept…I don’t include him in the category of electables… I think he should go back and take care of his congressional district.”

2. Excuse me, Senator
but exactly which of Kucinich's programs will the American people "simply not accept"? Single-payer health care? No funding for Iraq? Restoration of the Constitution? Impeachment? Do tell us, won't you?

Jesus, what an asshole.

12. Reid's son was running Clinton's campaign in Nevada, Kucinich was in the way
Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 11:59 PM by ursi
Everything that Hillary was bragging about would have been slapped down by Kucinich, same with Edwards when it came to the Iraq war, bankruptcy bill, YUCCA MOUNTAIN!, etc.

8. kucinich campaign is the only thing
thats keeping the democratic talking points on the table. otherwise our candidates would be suckling the corporate teat and marching in lockstep on the issues. Kucinich is the only one who reminds us what this election is about, even if it falls on deaf ears. It's not vanity if you see a sinking ship and try like hell to stop it.

14. Robert Scheer says its only kucinich not beholden to banks.
ITs so true. Not for Kucinich , i'd unlikley be a Democrat.

By Robert Scheer

It was smart of the top Democrats to cut presidential candidate Rep. Dennis Kucinich out of that South Carolina debate, where they lamely attempted to deal with the dire consequences of the banking meltdown without confronting the banks. They made all the proper concerned noises about millions of folks losing their retirement savings and homes, but none was willing to say what Kucinich would have said: Bankers are crooks who will steal from the public unless the government holds them accountable.

How do I know Kucinich would have said that? Because I interviewed him for the Los Angeles Times back when he was mayor of Cleveland and the banks foreclosed on his city after he refused to sell the public power plant. Others can talk a populist line, but Kucinich lived it. He was forced out of office that time, but voters realized 10 years later that Kucinich had been right. Thanks to the public power alternative that Kucinich refused to sacrifice, Cleveland had cheap power, and he was elected to the Ohio Legislature and then to Congress as his reward

11. ah
but your anti-Kucinich campaign keeps on truckin'.

How many of those 721 posts have been on a topic other than Kucinich? Oh, wait...the ones that were slobbering on about Edwards.

I'm sure there's no connection.

20. Funny...
To this inexperienced observer, Reid ONLY gives hell to those that don't have their boot on our neck.

I'd be way happier if he'd turn around and give the administration hell... FISA anyone?

Oh - and vanity campaign? Kucinich is getting out a very needed message. Every person that I introduce to Kucinich has come back impressed with his view and platform. He's my favorite of all the candidates. I only wish he wasn't marginalized by the media and now, our esteemed senate leader.

9. I think it is important to Recommend this thread...
The Democratic Senate Majority Leader is basically saying that it is unimportant to impeach the vice president and president, to have single payer not for profit health care, to end illegal spying, to repeal NAFTA etc., to repeal the patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act, and to end the illegal war in Iraq.

Well, obviously, by the actions and inactions of this freaking coward and traitor, Senator Reid definitely won' t do anything to undo the disastrous actions of this corrupt administration.

We are own our own folks...

19. The American people won't accept his programs, Harry?
Oh please. The American people desperately need his programs and our economy would improve with them. Instead, we have Bushites like you Harry in place to keep the American taxpayer plugging away at funding this war so we have NO money for anything that will help our country.

What the American people shouldn't accept is YOU and your pandering to the right Harry.

Dennis has more integrity in his little toenail than you have in your entire career.

23. Gee. That is a very revealing report. I'd always had doubts about
the good faith of Reid's critics, but his could not show him in a worse light.

In effect, he is claiming that the mass of the American people would repudiate free health care, in fact, a socially-responsible society. He evidently considers the extraordinarily popular documentary of Michael Moore, called Sicko, was a chimera. And this, mark you, from a man who couldn't afford to have a broken arm set and treated, as a youngster, due to his family's poverty.

None so blind as will not see, it seems. Could there be a more wretched misnomer for the village where he was born and raised than Searchlight. Ah, the briars of this World...
