Maureen Dowd's take on the Clintons' campaigning tactics (NYT, Jan 23, 2008)
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 07:13 AM by Apollo11
The New York Times - January 23rd, 2008

Two Against One

By MAUREEN DOWD

If Bill Clinton has to trash his legacy to protect his legacy, so be it. If he has to put a dagger through the heart of hope to give Hillary hope, so be it.

If he has to preside in this state as the former first black president stopping the would-be first black president, so be it.

The Clintons — or “the 2-headed monster,” as the The New York Post dubbed the tag team that clawed out wins in New Hampshire and Nevada — always go where they need to go, no matter the collateral damage. Even if the damage is to themselves and their party.

Bill’s transition from elder statesman, leader of his party and bipartisan ambassador to ward heeler and hatchet man has been seamless — and seamy.

(...)

It’s odd that the first woman with a shot at becoming president is so openly dependent on her husband to drag her over the finish line.

3. It seems a lot of people are beginning to notice "the two headed monster"
and don't want that kind of politics anymore.

It’s odd that the first woman with a shot at becoming president is so openly dependent on her husband to drag her over the finish line.

priceless

I knew that he'd do anything whatsoever to get what he wanted.

14. Huh?
You mean the vile monster who murdered a security guard and then shot himself in the head causing brain damage? Sorry, but he was not "retarded" when he committed the murder. I oppose the death penalty in all instances, but I have no sympathy at all for Rector.

5. This Isn't The Standard Hissy-Fit Queen Bee Knife Job
Dowd is actually addressing real and visible problems. Good for her, bad for the targets.

6. Up until now I thought that Mo
was just kind of depraved and obsessed about the Clintons.

In this column she is, simply and sadly, deadly accurate.

If the slime from the Clintons doesn't get turned off, we will witness some harsh blowback. I think it could be a backlash against Democrats so severe that it will cost us the White House and the Senate, and maybe the House as well. Despite all of the trends in the Democrats' favor, Hillary and Bill could very well be sowing the seeds of self-destruction.

It makes me nauseous.

7. MoDo is right
She is using her husband to try to win the nomination. That's a no-brainer.

Wait til someone says, "Sexist!" to Maureen Dowd.

10. I think you are in love with Dowd for one reason: she hates Hillary
And DU being anti-Hillary land, the responses are understandable.

12. There's a reason DEMOCRATIC Underground is anti Hillary
she's a rethug-lite.

Her vote on cluster bombs alone should dis-qualifier her from EVER serving as a Democrat in any capacity.

17. I think you should examine all issues
health care, immigration, foreign policy, the economy, death penalty, abortion, education, gay rights, etc.

And only then you should try to invent a reason to call Hillary a Republican. Good luck.

13. Yup, feminist icon needs HUSBAND to drag her through electoral mud
Her message seems to be a woman can only get elected by being the spouse of a president, and even then her man has to come out and do the dirty work for her.

Pathetic. How can any feminist support her candidacy?

Remember the he can't get a date? I am not saying what Clinton is doing is right but Dowd is not exactly unbiased.
