6. Don't play the experience card.
She's been governor for as long as Obama's been a senator.

Obama has two years on her. And a first time governor of Alaska (former Wasilla mayor) is not comparable to a four year senator from a state the size (population) of Illinois.

10. Don't forget to add in Obama's state senate experience
It's interesting because that has probably shaped him the most politically. In state politics you don't have the grandstanding and party-line voting like you would on the national scene. State legislators meet directly with their counterparts in the other party and must compromise to get bills passed.

20. But how can *they* play the experience card any longer?
Obama's been a senator for as long as she's been governor.

21. True. McCain threw away his trump card.
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 11:18 AM by Jim__
When I heard this this morning, I thought it was a feint and that it was deliberately being played to highlight Obama's lack of experience. This is a major blunder on McCain's part.

7. So it's St. Sarah for Little John?
If so, it's good news for our side. Alaska politics are among the most corrupt in the nation (it's the usual problem - too many Republicans). We shouldn't have to look too deep to dethrone this "saint".

11. wrong
i fail to see how having a woman who just had a baby as the vp nominee on the republican ticket can be anything but bad for democrats. All those disaffected fence sitting female democrats in places like WV kentucky and ohio will be tempted to vote republican.

I can already hear the ads with women who voted for hillary voting republican because they have a woman on the ballot.

this would be bad, very bad.

13. Does having a baby trump a corruption investigation though?
Lots of people have babies. Only a few betray their public office. Anyway, I guess it's not her, so it doesn't matter.

15. having a baby doesn't matter to me
but all the dingbats that watch oprah will eat it up. On a side note the last kid had down syndrome which equals major sympathy.

the wikipedia entry paints her as a whistle blower slash reformer. The only time she abused power was when she tried to get her former brother in law fired from his job as a state trooper for threatening to kill her father and tasering his 11 yr old stepson.

This is going to be a much tougher race than we thought.

19. Is she presidential material then?
Does her status compare to Biden? Does it matter that nobody has heard of her until today? What is her relevant experience, aside from motherhood?

I don't think it's at all obvious that this makes for a tough race, Down syndrome or not.

9. Their info sounded second hand
Dana Bash reported that Tim Pawlenty had confirmed he was out of the race for V.P. on a radio show and Bash also said that a plane from Anchorage landed in Ohio. She sounded like her sources weren't very firm though.

14. more on palin
5 kids, married to native american, life time member of nra, owns a float plane, mayor, gov.,

cnbc reporting her last kid has down syndrome. Strictly speaking politically here comes the sympathy vote, and no doubt she will be asked about why she didn't abort it. Probably going to do oprah. Pro-lifers out in force. this seems like a bad deal for democrats.

16. Bad For Democrats?
If nothing else, this choice would shore up the conservative Republican base, but little more.

I'm sure there will be a few disaffected Hillary voters who could switch their vote...not Hillary voters with brains and principles...but they could switch.
