The voices were almost inconsolable, which was weird considering how they belonged to callers of ‘The Howie Carr Show.”

Usually, they are seething, or sneering, or snickering about moonbats, illegal aliens, hacks, hacks who are illegal aliens and, of course, taxes. But on this particular afternoon, Howie’s people were mostly whining.

Their hero, Mitt Romney, had cashed out of the Republican primary after spending about $120,000 for each of the 200 or so delegates he managed to pick up. And Mike Huckabee, the Arkansas rube they dubbed Gomer Pyle, had finally let go. That left Howie’s screaming callers looking at a cranky 72-year-old white guy.
