Palin a joke, an absurdity (Andrew Sullivan)
"Palin on the Bush Doctrine"
Andrew Sullivan, The Atlantic
September 12, 2008

Er, what, er:

(snip)

Palin: I agree that a president's job, when they swear in their oath to uphold our Constitution, their top priority is to defend the United States of America.

I know that John McCain will do that and I, as his vice president, families we are blessed with that vote of the American people and are elected to serve and are sworn in on January 20, that will be our top priority is to defend the American people.

Actually, the first priority is to defend the constitution of the United States. Palin doesn't even know the oath she is supposed to swear. And any serious person who has followed the debates about US foreign policy knows what the Bush doctrine is. But we do not have a serious pick for the vice-presidency in the GOP, do we? We have an absurdity. And a joke.

3. Her answer was a repudiation of the Bush Doctrine.
Whoever prepared her didn't tell her what it is, they just taught her to respond in a manner consistent with the way things were *before* the Bush Doctrine was implemented.

What a farce. And ol' Charley was sort of clueless about her response. Why did he even bother to ask the question?

4. Charlie's body-language was interesting...
when she talked about war with Russia. He didn't say anything, but his complete change of position told me he was shocked and alarmed by what he heard.

5. K & R
If this is the best that Palin can do under the absolute best of circumstances with a host that wants her to succeed, she may have to call in sick to VP debate.

6. Sarah, look up "hubris"!
It was embarrassing to watch her talk about Israel about the "we can not second guess" ...3 times!!! Even after Gibson said that "what if we are not second guessing and know" she just sticked to the "we can not second guess" - PATHETIC!!!

She definitely lightened up when she was able to say that you can actually see Russia from Alaska, though.

Not worthy to be second in command (or third, or fourth...)

8. .
I was watching MSNBC for a minute this morning, and they had snippets of this interview playing. I forget who they had on the show to comment, but something this person said struck me - He said something along the lines of that these interviews are not "watched like a game show", and that the "smartest person doesn't always win".

Its so shocking and infuriating to hear this... that somehow the person who is not the smartest but the "most personable" is more likely to win an election.

Palin is a complete disgrace... I wish there was a way to get the brainwashed to see the light.

I don't even know what to say... :/

12. Exactly. If McC/P win, I hope all these un-rich Rs lose everything they've got.
The uncaring cruelty of voters, not to be outraged by this while millions of us suffer under foreclosures and job loss and the rest of it!

It would be absurd and irresponsible not to vote for change from Chimpie anyway. But nominating the likes of Porky is spitting in our faces on top of it.

And they eat it up... No wonder we're where we are. But I want it to catch up with these voters who DID THIS to the rest of us.

I've decided that after this is over, either way it goes, I won't forgive and forget. I'll ask who people voted for and I don't want to have anything to do with, or meet, or get to know, anybody who voted R this time. They've had 2 elections to wise up already, anyone who would do this again is a worthless snake in the grass in my opinion. I don't care if they're family or not.

I intend to continue fighting against the religious right and the Culture Warmongers no matter who wins.

11. Bushies seem to do that - Monica Goodling also didn't know
that her oath was to protect & defend the Constitution - she claimed she took at oath to Bush.

13. Her next interview will be with FOX's Sean Hannity...
What do you want to bet she'll be really, really well-prepared for that encounter? Palin's handlers probably faxed the questions over to Sean yesterday, and Sarah's already working on memorizing the responses.

The rest of the corporate media will endlessly replay Sarah's answers. She'll likely provide incredibly detailed background information to the toughest policy questions and carefully pronounce the names of every foreign leader she hasn't met yet. Her obvious mastery of the issues will finally demonstrate to one and all that Sarah is both a domestic and foreign policy expert. It will be another phony "cone of silence" moment for the McCain campaign.
