Is this the best the Republicans can do? (Daily Voice)
Keith Boykin | Posted October 6, 2008 1:05 AM

... In fact, the Ayers attack never made much sense. Obama was 8 years old when Ayers was involved in the activity in question. Surely, the McCain campaign is not suggesting that 8-year-old Barack had anything to do with the activities of someone he had never met 40 years ago.

Nobody who has seriously watched this campaign the past year and a half could think Obama is a dangerous or radical figure. If anything, Obama has been the embodiment of dignified cool while McCain has been an erratic, reckless risk-taker.

But if McCain wants to go the route of guilt by association, then let's talk about McCain's association with Watergate burglar and unrepentant convicted felon G. Gordon Liddy. McCain describes Liddy as an "old friend." That would be the same Liddy who plotted the kidnapping of his political opponents and told listeners to his radio show how to kill federal ATF agents. Yes, we will go there if necessary.

And that's to say nothing of Sarah Palin. She's probably the last person who can point fingers about law-abiding citizenry. Palin, remember, is under investigation for allegedly pressuring and intimidating law enforcement in her home state of Alaska. To this day, the self-professed reformer refuses to cooperate with state-authorized subpoenas that she and her husband have both ignored. And yes, that's the same husband who was involved in a radical secessionist political party that wanted Alaska to leave the United States. Do you really want to go there Sarah? ...

1. Very true. And it raises the right counter-points.

The Ayers thing is absurd. I guess by that logic, we could blame Palin for Ted Stevens' deals when she was 8 years old too.

McC/P might as well save the lame lies that no one will buy anyway, and just tell jokes or tap dance for a month. They've got nothing, as the writer said.

Oh, but then, they get in trouble even doing that, I forgot.

Seriously, if I were them I'd just "go through the motions" until it's over. That way, they might still preserve a little bit of an acceptable reputation afterwards. Or maybe not.

2. Liddy was also plotting to murder muckraker columnist Jack Anderson.
And he would have if his handlers at the White House would have given him the green light. He admits this in his book.
