They're the Aussies barracking for Obama (coming to volunteer)

THEY are a new breed of true believers: Australians so captivated by American presidential candidate Barack Obama's promise of "change we can believe in" that they are doing everything they can to help get him elected.

Young Sydneysiders and political veterans like Meredith Burgmann, motivated by his stance on the Iraq War, climate change and foreign policy, are packing their bags for the US to volunteer in the final crucial month of the presidential race. Others are using the internet to show their support.

Last week, a Lowy Institute survey revealed almost 75 per cent of Australians favour Senator Obama compared with 16 per cent for his Republican rival John McCain.

Rebecca Wilson, 33, flew to the battleground state of Ohio last Friday, her second trip to the US this year.

(snip)
City of Sydney Labor councillor Meredith Burgmann is heading to the bellwether state of New Hampshire with her two sisters to volunteer on the grassroots Democrat campaign.

6. The entire planet--at least the conscious, thinking portion of the planet--knows what a tragic
mistake the cheney*/bush* debacle is and has been. Most of the civilized world waited for us to correct our electoral miscarriage in 2004 and was dumbfounded that Smirk and Snarl were "re-elected." "Re-elected"...what a fucking joke. They were NEVER LEGALLY AND LAWFULLY ELECTED THE FIRST TIME.

Yes, the world waits for the United States to come out of its 8-year period of dark ages and rejoin the world community.

And one quick little shout out to former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor: So Justice O'Connor, how's that ILLEGAL Selection 2000 ruling working out for ya? Huh? Still think the United States is in better hands with cheney*/bush* than Gore?

8. I remember watching B vs G every day. One day Sandra said "if they can't figure
out how to punch a hole in a card, they shouldn't be allowed to vote..."

she certainly didn't below on the Supreme Court. It is not the voter's fault the machines were old and defective. Especially since the old and defective machines were sent to Democratic strongholds, while the new machines went to rethuglican districts. Methinks that statement was just O'Connor trying to assuage her own guilt at being part of the Supreme coup d'etat. She knowingly allowed a man, who did not win, ascend to the office of pResident. May she burn in judicial hell when her time comes.
