"Those oh-so-compassionate liberals could hardly contain their glee upon hearing the news that Attorney General John Ashcroft is suffering from a severe case of gallstone pancreatitis.


"He has it coming. He is utterly sub-human and evil. Suffer, bastard," gloated an Internet user on the DemocraticUnderground.com Web site. "(T)he world would be better off without him," responded another writer on the forum. "I hope he is in the most severe pain a human being can suffer, and after that, I hope he remains in constant pain with no hope of relief," chimed in yet another bleeding-heart Democrat. Out in Hollywood, comedian Bill Maher echoed these unsparing sentiments during his HBO talk show monologue, speculating that Ashcroft contracted his unimaginably painful and potentially deadly illness from "wiping his (expletive) with the Bill of Rights." The audience roared with laughter."

As a member of the demcratic underground web forum, I did not join in the postings against John Ashcroft. I am saddened that you would stereotype me as one of those who confuse political hatred for personal by saying how we here at DU are too blind to see "what this man and his department have done to protect their right to be free, safe and stupid."

Let me remind you of what he has not done to protect my right to be free, safe and stupid:

1) He cancelled the gay pride celebration for the Justice department, then said go ahead and have your party but you pay for it (that isn't very free is it?)

2) The patriot act (an interesting name since it takes away so many rights the patriots of this country fight for) gives the government the right to monitor everything from e-mail to medical records to library accounts--how should this make me feel safe?

3) Speaking of the terrorists, isn't it John who said that in life there is "the way of God and the way of the terrorists."? Or what about "Civilized people -- Muslims, Christians and Jews -- all understand that the source of freedom and human dignity is the Creator." Isn't that interesting that if I am not on his God's side then I am an uncivilized terrorist? Call me stupid (oh you already have) but our country has a Freedom of religion ideal that John is trying to squish out of the constitution.

Anyway, nice job taking a few quotes from a few people at a huge website and turning it into a biased, generalized "liberals are stupid" article. Sorry you are too free, safe and stupid too see your restricted, monitored, and silly article in the correct light.

Malkin will probably bring in a few new DUers with her article.
