Union boss warns pols to keep promises

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The head of the fastest-growing labor organization in the United States has a message for candidates who are now office-holders: Live up to your promises or get ready to face the wrath — and the money — of labor next time around.

“We believe that democracy functions best when you hold people accountable for what they promise,” Andy Stern, president of the powerful and growing Service Employees International Union (SEIU) said this week in an interview with CNN.

The SEIU donated $85 million to Democratic campaign war chests for last year’s elections, and its two million members put in countless hours of volunteer time on the campaign trail.
