Rove has already admitted to the FBI he circulated information about Valerie Plame after the Novak column.

Who wants to bet he was the one who leaked it to Novak?

1. So Rove's defense of his actions is...
...he had "ONLY" circulated info about Plame (to undefined "others in the White House," outside political consultants, and journalists AFTER it appeared in Robert Novak's column?

...and that it was a "legitimate means" to counter "politically motivated criticism" of Bush by her husband?

Wow, I thought he'd broken some kind of law or moral / ethical code.

My gut feeling is that as damning of a document as this is, Rove will walk away without a scratch. Because that's Rove.

They've got to prove that Rove leaked the info. Good luck.

And yes, I read the entire document, including the part that says that Rove, as a senior federal official, DID commit a crime by repeating the info after entering into "a relationship of trust with the government."

I read Bush's condemnation of "whoever" leaked the info and the fact that they are the "most insidious of traitors."

Nothing is going to happen to Bush. The WORST thing that will happen is that he will not get four more years. Nothing will happen to Rove as long as his primary residence is Bush's colon.

4. I feel fairly hopeful about this issue resulting in serious damage.
Apparently, the person who leaked to Novak used a shot-gun approach. A number of other journalists were also given the information. I expect that several of them will tell the investigating commission who it was that approached them with the info.

My guess is that the commission already has a very good idea of the identity of the leaker(s). I suspect that the person is high up, and the WH is making heavy threats to prevent this from going any further. The commission may be taking its time, slowly building evidence, and waiting for more damage to Chimpy so that they can release what I suspect will be bombshell revelations in an environment where people are beginning to question Chimpy's truthfulness.

I look for this to come out sometime this summer.

The other reason that I feel hopeful is that I have read that CIA personnel are furious about this. It's unheard of for somebody in government to reveal the identity of an undercover operative. Not only did it endanger Plame's life, it endangers the lives of those who were giving her information, and totally wrecked whatever program she was working on at the time. (Note - she was working on terrorist cells in Europe. Surprise. Chimpy doesn't want that info out anyway.)

I am hopeful that the CIA will hold the commission's feet to the fire. I also suspect that at least some in the CIA are now very angry with the Bush family, and I hope that has repercussions for years to come.

I really think that this was a huge political blunder on the part of Chimpy's crew. That means it may have been the Chimp's idea!

7. Read "Bush's War For Reelection" for a discussion of this...
...written by James Moore, one of the authors of "Bush's Brain," the major book (in addition to Lou Dubose's "Boy Genius") on Rove.

Moore talks about Pappy Bush's Texas campaign manager Rob Mosbacher:

"He (Mosbacher) also believes Rove is too smart to get involved in breaking the law to "out" the identity of a CIA agent. But in Texas, where Rove sharpened his political long knives, his was the first name to enter the minds of journalists. During his career as a political consultant in Texas, Rove was a source of countless leaks of information, documents, and data generally harming opponents of his clients. Always, his release of information was well-timed to do the most political damage."

If he wasn't directly responsible, he was the puppet master who made it happen, and as a "long-time family friend and professional associate of the Bush family" (as Moore describes him on the same page as the excerpt above), any discipline will be handled Tony Soprano style...not in a court, not in front of the press, maybe some kind of slap on the wrist from Pappy (or maybe even "Bar," who knows and who cares).

Justice won't be served here.

Some of these guys will be getting their second pardons.

Shouldn't people be limited to one?

5. I think it's Scooter.
Chris Matthews has implied as much. However, if Rove was advancing the story, that is apparently a crime in and of itself. Once it's leaked to the press, you're not supposed to confirm it.
