Bunning calls McConnell 'control freak'
Sen. Jim Bunning called Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell a "control freak" yesterday, saying his 2010 re-election campaign probably will benefit if his fellow Kentucky Republican doesn't back him.

Bunning said in his weekly conference call with reporters that "it could be the best thing that ever happened to me" if he does not have McConnell's support.

He said his difficulties with McConnell stem from a December meeting in which he rebuffed his colleague's efforts to get him out of the race.

"I said 'no' to him, and he doesn't like people to say 'no' to him. In fact, he's a control freak," Bunning said. "He likes to control everything that happens."

Bunning's comments marked the latest in a series of attacks on McConnell. Until last year, McConnell described himself as Bunning's best friend in the Senate, but he recently has been cool to Bunning's candidacy because of concerns that he can't win.

2. Must be a misattribution. Clearly Reid is the one who complained about that.

Fun for the entire family! Pop the corn, pull up a comfy chair and watch the bantam cocks fight it out to the death.

7. Have to wonder what role Bunning's "no" vote on TARP played here.
McConnell is superwhore to big business (which does not want free enterprise, but rather the benefits of socialism without the cost) and would not take kindly to that. I have a little bit of respect for Bunning for that vote, not that I'd support the erratic old conservative curmudgeon -- hell no.

In any case, a Kaintuck wrasslin' contest between two ole Republican houndawgs means it's time to savor the great taste of popcorn!

8. As a Kentuckian, I keep praying that McConnell does not dissuade
Bunning, because of course Bunning has a very low chance of winning. If he were to win, it would be a miracle, but another GOPer candidate, if he/she were to win, might be re-elected for years. I love it that the ever dense and stubborn Bunning may not fold to the irascible and irrational McConnell. McConnell himself just barely won against a rather unpopular, though wealthy, democrat.
