1. That's a stretch.
I think her skirt thing is charming. It does not necessarily indicate anything other than precociousness. I like her.

2. It's just not possible to jump to those conclusions from the scant informaton we have.

She's a bit of a loose cannon, which might be a product of a lot of things - her learning disabilities and folks making fun of her as a kid - or the fact that for a long time she's been a caregiver for elderly parents. A bit of a hothouse flower, as it were. The last is not an unusual responsibility of the youngest daughter in a large family.

She gets out. Goes to the pub. Has a beer. Says 'fuck', and does a fair amount of 'normal' things.

Evidently, she'll be in DC for the 4th of July. I hope she has a fookin' good time.

3. Who the fuck cares?
Is "reality" TV really that much of a priority in your life?

6. You're right.
DU has turned into People magazine with all of the idiotic "Is Susan Boyle (or whomever) ok?" threads.

I should expect this from a political forum.

8. No. She suffered brain damage as a child. She is emotionally labile.
She's doing the "Sophie Tucker" when she behaves that way. It's the sort of thing her PARENTS would do, if they were alive. A bit like Mae West--over the top. It doesn't go over well if one doesn't see the context. She was very close to her parents--she's more of their generation than her own in many respects.

She also pouts, cries, throws things (including the finger) and tells people to feck off.

It's a response to stress, she lacks coping mechanisms. She could also use a few "people" to keep folks away from her who want her autograph or want to goof on her because she's not quite the full quid.

She was very sheltered as a child and up until her mother died.

If she were an abuse victim, she'd blurt it all out. Her problem is that she can't modulate; she can't keep her emotions in.

9. Yes, she also broke down when she heard she'd made it to the next round of the competition.
GOOD observation of her being more a part of her parents' generation.

I think she'll find periodic, non-competitive gigs much easier and much more enjoyable.

Rumor has it she's coming to DC for the 4th of July. It would be neat to see her belt one out for 'Bam and Michelle.

10. Maybe
or it could have been social awkwardness brought on by living a sheltered life. Since she was born with learning disabilities, it could have been that her family just sort of "tucked her away" as it were so she really wasn't out in public all that much.

11. That is an interesting theory.
I have a great fondness for Susan Boyle. I think she has a beautiful voice and one thing I believe is that singing is her escape from the cruelities of this world.

I have been thinking she may have Asperger's Syndrome and that is what explains the social awkwardness.

I hadn't thought of sexual abuse, but it may explain some of her behavior.

Whatever, I hope that she is receiving the kind of treatment at this clinic she is in that should have been provided to her years ago. Maybe this whole experience and her admission to this hospital will finally allow her to learn to overcome whatever has caused her to live an unfullfilled life. I hope that the next decades of her life will bring her happiness.

12. I wish her the best.
She has a gorgeous voice, and many things could be causing the awkwardness, as you say. I'm not familiar with all the factors that could cause it.

I thought that her behavior demonstrated submission to authority common to primate behavior.
