Newsweek story on Howard Dean
There's a big Newsweek story on Dean today--I apologize if this has already been addressed. But the main story is that Democrats are probably going to nominate Dean, and it's proof that Democrats are totally nuts.

I don't know about you, but I don't feel totally nuts.

The Article is here --> http://www.msnbc.com/news/947647.asp?0cv=NB10

Here's a quote. "Then there’s Tom Bevan, a 38-year-old former advertising executive from the Chicago area with a conservative bent. He wrote a $25 check to Dean last week after seeing him surge. “The further left he goes and the Democrats go, the better for my man Bush,” Bevan says. “Some of the more centrist candidates would present more of a challenge to a Republican.

Anyway the article is all about how Dean is going to be too divisive a candidate. About how much he resembles other candidates beloved by the northeast liberal who putter out early.

Rush was talking about Dean too, although predicably he appeared to be talking about an alternate universe Dean, one who rants socialism and who is more liberal than Vladimar Putin (which is not the worst thing you could say). He's given Dean the nickname Nikita Dean, after the popular TV show and Movie "La Femme Nikita." No, of course I'm kidding, it's in reference to Nikita Kruschev.

1. Encourage more Republicans to contribute...
...it's less money they have to give to Bush, more money that will be used to expose Bush lies. The Rove strategy wasn't really meant to be taken this seriously by the rank and file. I've spoken to three Republicans (who think I'm a conservative Republican) over the past several days that although at first they were "cheering Dean" because of the Rove talking points, have since taken a closer look, and are now sincerely backing him. I was truly conflicted as to how much effort I had to put in to play the devils advocate in resisting their encouragement to "take a closer look at fiscal sanity"...

3. I just gave Howard Dean $200
That leaves me $1800 more to give before the end of the election cycle.

4. Exciting isn't it?
To feel "personally invested" in a presidential campaign...

And the way they are fundraising is really making many reconsider how they are doing it...It's going to prove to be a surprising, powerful strategy that really shows its power over the long term.

5. yes, Rush has definitely been challenged by Dean!
hee hee, Limpball went on for almost his entire time obsessing about "Nikita Dean" (I noticed he still never says "Kerry" without the "French-looking," so we can expect "Nikita" for the duration) and how "this is NO LIBERAL; fiscal conservative, HA!"

See, here's what happened: Dean named Rush in two talks or speeches over the weekend; something to the effect that "we're going to stand up to Rush Limbaugh and the right wing." It's like Dean has called out Rush, thrown down the glove. Limpball is flabbergasted that he has been named--"but I'M not running for president!"--and comes across like he feels like he's been attacked!!

Oh I would give ANYthing to have Dean challenge one of these hot air turkeys to a debate!

BWAHAHAHAHA!! GO HOWARD!!

btw: allow me to give my own back a well-deserved pat: a couple of months ago someone on DU posted the statistic that about a quarter to a third (?) of all eligible voters are young people who just don't vote. I immediately e-mailed the Dean campaign pointing this out and suggesting ways they could court that youth vote--and now look what's going on! "Generation Dean," the only organized youth effort of any candidate and apparently catching on very nicely. Not that I was the ONLY one who thought of youth voters or anything, of course . . .

and I e-mailed last week suggesting that Dean address the infuriating lie being told by Boortz, Limpball, and the rest of the right-wing spawn that "poor people don't pay income taxes"--or much of ANY taxes for that matter. I couldn't help wondering if by calling out Rush, Dean isn't setting him up for a duel!!

8. About Dean being divisive
Thomas Jefferson said that every generation needs a new revolution, and Dean is leading the 21st century's 1st revolution. It's a non-violent revolution fought by Dean attracting apathetic and disgruntled voters back to the political process to vote the bums out of office.

9. Interesting article
But it was funny how the article said that one misstatement by Dean could send him to the recycling bin.

Like, almost every thing Bush says is a misstatement.

One other point--I remember when some people thought that Reagan would be a weak candidate because he was so right wing. So, I am not too worried about the charge that Dean is too liberal. Especially since that is not true. He is a fiscal conservative, something that Bush is not.
