Waiving the Rules for Old Glory

It is time to discuss the commericalism of the American flag post-9/11, and the cheapening of it by those who fell prey to that commercialism. Yes, patriotism got weakened by such cheap use of the flag post-9/11, and maybe it was against the law.

Isn't that the truth.

Bush was the worst--he'd get fifty flags and array them behind him. The regs say ONE flag, not dozens. If you want bunting, buy some frigging bunting.

The other thing that bugs me is picnic items--you can have red/white/blue themed paper plates, cups and napkins, and the blue can even have stars on it, but you shouldn't be eating off an image of the flag, or blowing your nose on it.

It's a great article--I only wish the guy had published it in 2002, when the absurdity was at its height. In my wanderings about, I've noticed that flag frenzy has decreased markedly, and those who do display the flag are tending to do it correctly. So, I think this guy's complaint was valid, but way too late. I suppose he was afraid of being put on Bush's Terra List if he complained before now....
