Doormat Blair backs Bush with: "We refuse to yield on Iraq" and "We are together on Israel"
By Bob Roberts, Political Correspondent in Washington
TONY BLAIR and George Bush stood side by side last night as they squared up to the growing crisis in Iraq and vowed: "We will not yield."
They insisted they would press on with plans to hand over power to the Iraqis on June 30 - despite deepening unrest and increasing coalition casualties.
At a joint White House press conference the two leaders also said they were united on plans to bring peace in Israel.
Mr Bush urged Palestinian leaders to "seize the moment" after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon announced plans to pull out of the Gaza strip and part of the West Bank.
And Mr Blair supported the move - despite claims by former Foreign Secretary Robin Cook that Bush's backing for the Sharon scheme was a humiliating snub to the PM and would throw the Road Map to peace off track.
