Sodomized to Protect Our Freedoms

Sodomized to Protect Our Freedoms

By Allan Uthman, Buffalo Beast. Posted August 3, 2009.

Would we really need debate on the torture question if we discussed the numerous acts of sodomy instead of the nuances of waterboarding?

"Yasser tearfully described that when he reached the top of the steps 'the party began. … They started to put the (muzzle) of the rifle (and) the wood from the broom into (my anus). They entered my privates from behind.' ... Yasser estimated that he was penetrated five or six times during this initial sodomy incident and saw blood 'all over my feet' through a small hole in the hood covering his eyes." – by Physicians for Human Rights' "Broken Laws, Broken Lives," a report containing firsthand accounts of men who endured torture by U.S. personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantánamo Bay.

Waterboarding. It's all we seem to discuss when comes to American torture. Whenever you see people discussing "enhanced interrogation" on your TV, chances are they'll be throwing around the same tired arguments, all revolving around waterboarding.

Why, of all the things we've done to our suspected (and not-so-suspected) terrorist detainees, is waterboarding the issue? Why confine the rapidly dwindling debate to that single technique? We've engaged in a lot of other practices that qualify universally as torture. Are sleep deprivation or "Palestinian hanging" not controversial enough? Is solitary confinement too mundane? .......(more)

1. They confine the issue to water boarding because
the images water boarding evokes, are not nearly as disturbing as the images anal rape/rape. Nearly half of all Americans believe using water boarding to 'keep us safe' is ok. By not including rape in the discussion, 'good' Americans can continue to hold on to their fantasy that America is not a monster.

But we are.

3. They don't talk about rape
because even the dimmest American recognizes it as a criminal act. Waterboarding is not that well known, and the term sounds innocuous--evoking pictures of kids on a waterslide in the back yard on a hot summer's day.

5. That's why the term is "waterboarding" and not "Chinese water torture".
If anything, they are expert at perverting the meanings of our words and creating inane, (even happy) little phrases to cover for everything from environmental crimes (Healthy Forests/Clean Skies) to torture, murder and rape - collectively known as "War Crimes".

6. I always thought the Chinese Water Torture Consisted of
dripping water on one's head for extended periods, iif in irregular patterns.
Being cold, wet, and dripped on, and having no way to stop it...

8. That's the Hollywood version. The real thing is textbook waterboarding...
and far more efficient, though wasteful of resources.

9. It figures
Hollywood has done this country a great disservice. I walked out of Marathon Man during the waterboarding scene--although we didn't know what it was called at the time....

4. God is in the Mix! Hallelujah!
The 'Churches' of America support torture, rape, and murder, but oppose civil rights and equality. Almost as many of them support torture as oppose love. And yet they demand to be treated as superior beings. Note that this 'war' of theirs, they can not even bear to have GLBT people around to translate, no, the heterosexuals need to be unchecked by ethical people in order to maintain the level of torture and abuse that the Churches of America demand. Jesus wept indeed.

7. Maybe more churches will start preaching against the evil of torture from the pulpit?
Kicked and recommended.

Thanks for the thread, marmar.
