Hillary v. Sarah 2012
Hillary v. Sarah 2012
Colleen O'Connor, SDNN
You read it here first.

It is official. Hillary Clinton vs. Sarah Palin for President of the United States in 2012.

Before you laugh, scream, or shake your head in disbelief, please consider the following:

• Who is currently more popular, by far, than President Barack Obama? Hillary Clinton (70 percent approval v. Obama’s latest RCP poll average of 53 percent; Rasmussen approval poll of “likely voters is 49 percent).

• Who bounced President Obama off the cover of Time Magazine in July? Sarah Palin.

• Who did Willie Brown, former San Francisco Mayor, Speaker of the California Assembly, and one of the craftiest of Democratic politicians, say possessed “some of the best political instincts I have ever seen?” Sarah Palin. (Brown also said her early resignation as Governor was “genius.”)

• Who has a 70 percent approval rating (or better) among the staunchest members of their respective parties’ base (liberal and conservative respectively)? Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin.

• And who has well over $1 million in their political bank accounts, with lots more ahead? Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. Hillary has an additional $2.1 million in her Senate account)

• Who is considered a “ratings magnet” for the increasingly addled, dying mainstream media? Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. (See: Dana Milbank’s “bitch beer rant” WAPO, July 31st and Maureen Dowd’s whine in The New York Times).

Simply put, those losing “star power” attack those with it, in order to keep their jobs—even if the attacks are unfounded, nasty, and sexist in the ugliest sense of the word.

• And, finally, who is presiding over the biggest domestic mess since the Great Depression, with dwindling poll numbers (that slide faster once below 50 percent); a Congressional team with the lowest approval numbers in history; Democratic Governors in serious trouble in once formidable Democratic states (New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts)—as well as Ohio, North Carolina, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and Wisconsin (all below 50 percent); as well as a “wrong track, right track” rating that is serious cause for alarm about re-election in 2012. (NPR, UNH, RCP, Fox, Rasmussen, Quinnipiac, Marshall College, etc.).

President Barack Obama.

In addition, a new memo just published, explains how Obama strategist, David Axelrod’s biggest fear about Obama, is that he can’t take criticism... Read more

An interesting analysis... not too likely... but interesting.

6. I guess he'll either be
1. Shamed out of running a second term (a couple of people on DU have speculated that if he doesn't miraculously turn around the economy, he'll step down), or

2. The whackjob Birthers will have him tossed or they'll get one of their gun-toting nutcases to do what they've been dancing around.

Crazy shiznit.

3. Who was the Pipe Dreaming Nitwit Who Crafted This Pile of Shit?
It's "official" all right--that this writer is hallucinating!

There's only ONE way that Hillary Clinton would run for President, and that is if those years of smoking caught up with the current office holder and he became gravely ill and chose not to run again, or he died unexpectedly.

Sarah Palin is crashing and burning even as we speak. She's showed herself to not be a barracuda, or a pitbull, but a thin-skinned lying whiner. Every time she puts herself out there, she falls on her quitting ass.

The last time a party insider challenged a President in our party, it ended badly. Hellooooooooo? Carter and Kennedy?

If this writer thinks that a cabinet official will challenge a sitting president, I'll have what they're smoking, because it's gotta be one helluva high!

Your review of "not too likely" is very kindly accurate! I can't bring myself to be so nice--I gotta do the "cough-horsehit-cough" routine!

11. PUMA
For example:

http://www.sdnn.com/sandiego/2009-07-02/news/colleen-oconnor-born-in-the-usa-and-proud-to-be-an-american-woman

"Hillary Clinton did, however, win 18 million votes in the Democratic Presidential primaries—the most ever recorded."

This particular piece of math is cited by PUMAs over and over again.

http://www.yestodemocracy.com/yes_to_democracy_no_to_pu/2008/07/popular-vote--.html

"4) Popular Vote Total, (Estimates for IA, NV, ME, WA, includes Michigan)
Obama - 17,869,542
Clinton - 18,046,007
Winner - Clinton +176,465

By adding in the caucus estimates, Sen. Clinton gets to 18 million votes to Sen. Obama's almost 17.9 million votes. The margin drops to 0.5%

So on their page, depending on the statistics used, Obama wins 50% of the popular vote or Clinton wins 50% of the popular vote.

But we still have that pesky 238,168 Michigan votes that are in limbo because they didn't vote for Sen. Clinton. One could logically argue that ignoring those voters could in fact be disenfranchisement of those voters. And that's 44.8% of the people who voted in that primary.

Real Clear Politics did NOT add those votes to Sen. Obama's count. But what if we did, just to see what would happen?

5) Popular Vote Total, (no caucus estimates, includes Michigan, uncommitted to Obama)
Obama - 17,773,626
Clinton - 17,822,145
Winner - Clinton +48,519

So here, by excluding the caucus votes, both get over 17 and a half million. Sen. Clinton wins by a margin of 0.1%

Now we get to the last estimate.
6) Popular Vote Total, (Estimates for IA, NV, ME, WA, includes Michigan, uncommitted to Obama)
Obama - 18,107,710
Clinton - 18,046,007
Winner - Obama +61,703

Both get over 18 million votes. Sen. Obama wins with a margin of 0.2% And again, there's that pesky 50% thing."

Or this paens to Sarah Palin

http://www.sdnn.com/sandiego/2009-07-06/news/politics-city-county-government/colleen-oconnor-sarah-palins-move-is-brilliant-politics

http://www.sdnn.com/sandiego/2009-06-15/news/politics-city-county-government/colleen-oconnor-palin-is-my-sister-too

Or her support of Republican Meg Whitman for Governor of California

http://www.sdnn.com/sandiego/2009-06-08/news/politics-city-county-government/colleen-oconnor-meg-whitman-could-win

"Add to this dynamic, the rising tide of “independent” voters, Ms. Whitman’s appeal to women (many of whom are still irritated at the rather shabby treatment of both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin, and want some history making news of their own) and you can easily put together a perfect storm that leads to Meg Whitman occupying the Governor’s mansion."

All together, the author fits the profile of the die-hard PUMA

12. Gee, I wonder where Hillary's vaunted 70% would be if SHE had spent
the last six months dealing with "the biggest domestic mess since the Great Depression, with dwindling poll numbers (that slide faster once below 50 percent); a Congressional team with the lowest approval numbers in history; Democratic Governors in serious trouble in once formidable Democratic states (New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts)—as well as Ohio, North Carolina, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and Wisconsin (all below 50 percent); as well as a “wrong track, right track” rating that is serious cause for alarm about re-election in 2012. (NPR, UNH, RCP, Fox, Rasmussen, Quinnipiac, Marshall College, etc.)."

14. Why are we wasting time on such a wild speculation????
For those who watch TV and especially watch Republicans on
TV, there is a subtle move on Republicans part, totamper down
Palin. They must be careful not to alienate those in the
base who "love Sarah". It appears they wish to keep her
active in the party. Even Republicans know this is not
their best candidate for President.

As a former Hillary supporter and I still admire her--
There is no basis for comparing Hillary's polls and Obama's
polls. Obama is in the position of authority. He has to
take the blame for everything. If Obama does not run,
this means he failed. This means any candidate we put up
cannot win. This means the GOP will will. Hillary is
too smart to go into a losing campaign.

All that aside, IMO Hillary is not going to run for President.
She will make History as SOS,

We would do well to stick to making Obama succeed rather
than wasting time .

15. In 12 I think Romney will more likely get the nomination, than Palin.
Especially if Huckleberry Hound makes the race and divides the fundamentalist and Southern vote. Hillary vs. Palin in 16 would be awesome. A real woman vs. a fake, failed, Republican anti-woman woman.

I would love to see this played out in 2016. We WILL have a woman president, but it damn better not be Palin.
