2. It might get down to a shootout. NRA president said something like "whoever
has the guns wins" at a big meeting a few months ago. Let's hope it won't happen, but if the NRA gets behind these crazies, it could.

8. This is more than just the health insurance lobby fighting back...
Think about it: Major reform of the US health insurance industry will also impact the way medical malpractice is handled. Medical malpractice insurers don't like it: less money for them. Wall Street doesn't like it: less money for medical malpractice carriers means the carriers will be investing less money in the stock market. And an entire sector of the legal community -- malpractice lawyers -- doesn't like it because a large chunk of their percentage-based fees will disappear.

One of the commenters over at TPMDC got it exactly right.

It makes perfect sense. Threaten violence, threaten the lives of members of Congress, and bring guns to a health care reform forum, all in the service of lobbyists for huge corporations that don't want to see a loss of revenue. What an upstanding citizen!

Let's run through that again from the other direction. Huge insurance company in near-monopoly has customers pay ever-increasing costs for insurance, while trying to avoid paying claims, and rakes in enough to give their execs ridiculously high pay and compensation and make huge campaign contributions to friends in Congress. When lucrative venture is threatened by attempts to give uninsured and low-income people an affordable alternative, big insurance corporations pull out all the stops to thwart it.

Pulling out all the stops includes telling mind-numbingly ridiculous lies about the reform bill, hiring lobbyists to form fake grassroots groups and saturate right-wing media outlets with those lies, and encouraging violence against Democratic members of Congress, fueled by ignorance, bigotry, and a dependence on right-wing media for all information.

End result: moron brings gun to a town hall meeting.

Good show, AHIP!

14. Obama's ex-doctor pays 25% of his income to malpractice insurance
I think Thom Hartman interviewed him, after the guy came public. He said malpractice insurance is a major problem. Most of a high payout for malpractice goes for future medical cost of the mistake.

Give us a public option and that cost would go away.

But the doctors main complain about malpractice insurance:

Insurance costs too much.

Give us a public option.

9. This is nuts. And fucking scary.
Having a license to carry does NOT mean Town Hall Mtgs have to allow firearms in gatherings. These people are totally unhinged!

10. Simple solution: metal detectors for town hall meetings
They have them at the State house, they should have them at town hall meetings too.

11. They can't win long term
There is no way these people can win long term, no matter how much short term damage they try to do. The police, FBI and if need be national guard can easily overpower a handful of lone killers and there is no way they could set the course for the nation. I hope on some level they understand that, and undertand they will do far more to hurt their causes than anything else with violence.

12. First one to show a firearm at one of these meetings instantly loses.
The first one to use a firearm against a political opponent in town hall meeting grantees their point of view is forever associated with criminality.

If the wingnuts are encouraging citizens to bring fire arms to a Town Hall meeting, then they best set up metal detectors just like they do at the airports. Anyone who brings a gun to a Town Hall meeting should be given the choice to check their gun, or face arrest if they try to enter.

If this spins out of control, people will be maimed or killed, in the cross fire. Perhaps its time to charge people with domestic terrorism, because this is just what it is.
