Town Brawl
by Stacie Adams | August 11, 2009

Time for your nap, Mr. Grumpy Republican! I know it can be frustrating to see your beloved country over run by 'socialists' like Barack Obama and the rest of the democratic party, but I am just teeeeeerrrified that all of this excitement is unduly taxing your already over stressed ticker.

What typically happens when some irrational, shit-stirring agitator interrupts a public forum? They are tossed out of the room onto their ass and roundly beaten with the long sticks or tazed for good measure. So why are these idiotic protesters treated any differently? And what do they contribute to the dialogue? Spittle flecked diatribes about freedom and democracy, two things they’ve shown nothing but contempt for up until it was advantageous for them to assert otherwise? The insinuation that someone is holding our country hostage and like Chuck Norris in some horrible 80s movie, they want it back? Open handed smacks to the head of some timid representative who is not accustomed to being manhandled by disgruntled republicans?

This is not a debate. A debate is the back and forth between two informed opponents. This is a spokesperson for the newly proposed health plan being shouted down by republican talking points that sound all scary and ominous to your average Fox News viewer, but really indicate nothing more than the purveyor of such slogans have overactive imaginations.

I advocate ridicule when dealing with an irrational opponent. Certainly you can’t reason with them, you may as well try to reason with a small child or a cat or a roll of tin foil. It is an exercise in futility. They don’t want reason, they don’t want citations of effective health care models from around the world, they don’t want a rational discussion. They want a fight.

They are picking up fight because they are sore losers. Instead of accepting defeat with dignity and choosing to cooperate with the rest of society, they are pounding their feet on the pavement and roiling their little clenched fists in frustration. Because it’s just not fair! This is rendered even more hilarious by the fact that up until now the republican response to everything has been some variation on ‘life is not fair.’

1. The disparity between the way these protesters are treated, and the way "leftwing"
demonstrators have been treated is a question I have been asking myself for the past several days. There are a lot of unmentionables floating around.

3. Yeah, but we don't need to go there. We're better than that.
However, it would be fun to see at least a couple of them do the 45 kilo volt tango.

I agree. If they're not going to have a rational debate, a little mocking and ridicule is always in order. Their arguments, in their total absence of logical foundation, should not even be allowed into the debate, IMO.
