Town Hall meetings, fascism, actual fascism, and mirrors for conservative activists
Much has been made about the fabrications provided by opponents of health care reform (“death panels,” “pulling the plug on grandma,” etc). Many recent disgruntled town hall participants have heard the term “fascist” used by their leaders, have no idea what it is, and have went about using it without any awareness that their ideology brings them closer (although only slightly so) to actual fascism than those they criticize.

The health care reform bill that contained a provision related to funding medical consultations related to advance care directives could just as easily resulted in patients doing everything possible to prolong life. But either way it would have been the patient’s choice based on medical advice given by the doctor of their choice.

Fascism is a political philosophy which seeks to dramatically constrain personal choices through policies that are nearly the precise opposite of what was proposed here. Any political science text indicates that conservatives generally want more government involvement in the social sphere than liberals (and less in the economy). German fascism was not radically left or right on the economy but it was vastly and dangerously socially authoritarian (constraining personal choices). My conservative friends are nothing like true fascists but for those using it to label liberals (of all people) I suggest the following: Ask them to 1) Obtain a political science 101 text book, 2) Obtain a mirror, 3) Compare and contrast.

Mussolini, the whole gang. Those words are JUST pejoratives. They are shorthand for doodiehead. Luckily, it will shortly wear thin. Watching people freak out day in and day out, you start to just say, shut the fuck up. And when america says that, say good night gracie. At this point, let them wax lunatic for the camera's. Even Oreilly is arguing that not all republicans are like those insane people. The image is starting to become white panthers. The angry white male is gonna secure his advantages. I predict, that there is nowhere to go, after you accuse Obama of being a soft fascist commie. Letum eat panic. Vent freaks. Isnt it funny, how the youtube generation knows better that to be seen being stupid on youtube? It is all 30 on.

Their historical revision is blatant, their wielding terms interchangeably, is obvious. The public can only eat their delusions for so long. They will soon spurn the right.
