Anybody here seen my old friend Ted?

Anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
You know I just looked around and he's gone

Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone

(brief instrumental interlude-organ)

Anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone

Didn't you love the things that they stood for?
Didn't they try to find some good for you and me?
And we'll be free
Some day soon, it's gonna be one day

Anybody here seen my old friend Bobby?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
I thought I saw him walkin' up over the hill
With Abraham, Martin and John
And Ted

4. I had to look them up because the song just kept playing in my head, but I couldn't exactly remember
them. I was glad to have found it on that particular site. (So many lyrics sites are malware infected.)

So sad that the song now needs a new verse.

6. It's one of my favorites.
Growing up in the 50s with rock and roll Dion and the Belmonts were one of my favorite recording groups. When Dion made that single several years later I initially had no idea it was him. It's such a simple sad song that got a little sadder today. :(

3. I didn't know he had died. I'm crying.
I was up late and just now got up. Oh how sad!

5. I read it here on DU just before I was going to sleep last night, and I didn't get to sleep for
hours. What a great loss to so many.

7. Yes, he finally is with his brothers and sisters and friends. I would
say that he is lucky. The was this country is going who knows what is going to happen.

12. I think that it may have ended his suffering from health problems, but he was such an optimistic
fighter for the causes he believed in, and we believe in, I imagine that he'd rather have fought on for another ten or twenty years. I hope he can rest peacefully, but it may not be easy for him to.

8. lib_wit_it, I really lost it,
When you added "And Ted" at the end.

I had the pleasure many years ago of interviewing Dick Holler, who, strangely enough, also wrote "Snoopy Vs. the Red Baron."

9. It's a sad day, with many sad reminders. But also many joyous memories of a good man who worked hard
for equality and justice. Quite a family.

Well, that Dick Heller is one versatile song-writer. Interesting. Was your interview it for a freelance piece or an assignment?

13. It was a newspaper assignment,
for Sunday Arts section. He sat on a piano bench the whole time, playing snatches of this and that, and talking about composing. Naturally, he wanted to talk about "A, M and J" and said he hated owning up to "Snoopy"!
