Poll: More than half of voters say they would vote to replace every lawmaker.
Throw the bums out" goes beyond baseball: More than half of voters said they would vote to replace the entire Congress, according to a Rasmussen Reports survey conducted Aug. 27-28.

In the telephone survey of 1,000 voters, just 25 percent told pollsters they would vote to keep the current roster of lawmakers, while 18 percent said they are not sure how they would vote.

The current numbers show little change since October. When Congress was passing the $700 billion bailout plan during the presidential campaign and an impending meltdown of the financial industry, 59 percent wanted to throw out all members and 17 percent wanted to keep them.

With Democrats in control of both chambers of Congress, it's not surprising that the number of Democrats who would vote to keep the entire Congress has grown from 25 percent to 43 percent.

However, 70 percent of unaffiliated voters said they would vote to replace all of the elected politicians in the House and Senate, up from 62 percent last year.

1. ...except their own.
That is how virtually all of these surveys go. Everybody hates Congress, but generally likes their own representatives.

7. Not me. Mine looks like a tool.
I would never vote for him if any reasonable alternative presented itself. The problem is not that people love their own, the problem is that the current way of doing politics favors incumbents and incompetents.

2. Agree with trotsky: except their own. Voters bellyache over Congress
and yet every two years reflexively return their own critter right smackdab back to Washington.

5. Everyone else's 'lawmaker', theirs: not so much.
When these polls actually dig into what the respondent means, it generally turns out that they like their rep and senators but think all the other bums need to be tossed.

6. The article in question says not a word about people still supporting
their own Representatives and Senators. Not one word.

9. This question gets asked a lot and quite frequently that minor detail is left out.
The 'toss the bums out' index is interesting in its up and down changes, but as a gauge for how the next congressional election will go, it is not very good. It does not mean, for example, that 70% of incumbents will lose their seats. More likely 70% will keep their seats. The number of competitive seats is small, and it is only those seats where this poll might have value.

11. Considering how many eligible Americans decline to even vote......
this amounts to a lot of bellyaching by lazy cranks. These are probably the same people who don't vote because "they're all the same".

The USA has the lowest voter turnout of any modern western democracy.
