Colleen O’Connor: Put Ted Kennedy Jr. in the Senate
Colleen O’Connor: Put Ted Kennedy Jr. in the Senate
SDNN
A political star was born on Aug. 29 in Boston, Mass.

And it wasn’t anyone currently angling for the late Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat.

It was his son, Ted Kennedy, Jr., whose eloquence and pitch perfect delivery brought the entire assemblage at the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help — to its feet.

Only Catholics know how rare a standing ovation among those hallowed pews is.

Forget the current “front runners,” the campaign war chests, and the talent already signed on to elect the next Senator from Massachusetts.

Ted Kennedy, Jr., the son who lost his leg to cancer at the age of 12, who is an attorney advocate for Americans with disabilities, and who spoke so compassionately, might just be the leader Massachusetts is looking for.

Massachusetts without a Kennedy is like Mass without communion—little chance of salvation.

This Kennedy has it all. Looks, a familiarity with pain, fear, and a closeness to defeat that is up close and personal.

He has the heft, the depth, and the breadth required of any leader... Read more

1. He lives in CT. I'd love to see him run against Lieberman. nt

6. I really, really like that idea.
Seeing a Kennedy take down a faux progressive like Liebermann would be perfect. Joe has been running as a 'real liberal Democrat, except on Iraq' for way too long...his position on healthcare should expose this neocon fraud for what he is.

On the other hand, I'd be happy to see Vicki Kennedy run...who knows the current Washington staff and Ted's agenda better than her? Given that she has a law degree, I'd say she is more than qualified to keep the dream alive and represent this district.

2. May be he can run on Lieberman's seat, but he is not a resident of MA.

And I have a problem this sentence:

"Massachusetts without a Kennedy is like Mass without communion—little chance of salvation."

Ted Kennedy was a great senator and will be missed by all. But there are plenty of people in MA with skills and conviction.

I will take the risk of saying that this seat does not belong to the Kennedy. It belongs to the citizens of MA.

3. Too bad he lives here in CT and not in MA.
Maybe Dodd could retire and let Ted, Jr. run. He'd be a slam dunk after that eulogy of his. Having another Ted Kennedy in the Senate would be the best! And it would drive the righties crazy...well, I mean crazier than they are already...

5. If he's truly interested, make him run for it in Jan. Dukakis is 75 and won't run in Jan.

It's like the NY appointment Gillibrand got. They should have just put Cuomo in and had a real primary.

An incumbent - even an appointed one - has a huge advantage in an election. If they're appointed, it's an unfair advantage.
