Frank Schaeffer: "Glen Beck and the 9/12 Marchers:Subversives from Within"
Edited on Mon Sep-14-09 10:08 AM by Iwillnevergiveup
This is who and what our country is up against. Our very own madrasas.

--snip--

The Anti-American Home Schoolers Come Of Age

We are now several generations into this experiment of holier-than-thou withdrawal from our American mainstream culture. If you wonder who it is that's both running and underwriting organizations such as the Family Research Council, Focus On The Family, Freedom Works and other organizers of the 9/12 March and who are the most faithful followers the likes of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh or viewers of Fox News your answer is: it's the home school/Christian school generation of men and women now hitting their thirties and even forties who might as well have been raised on a different planet.

What are these home school and Christian school children taught? Here's a quote from one of the far right's leading home school curricula creators:

"The political question is this: By what biblical standard is the pagan to be granted the right to bring political sanctions against God's people? We recognize that unbelievers are not to vote in Church elections. Why should they be allowed to vote in civil elections in a covenanted Christian nation? Which judicial standards will they impose? By what other standard than the Bible?"
(Gary North of Institute For Christian Economics)

14. Many are more terrified than angry, not that it makes them any less dangerous
afraid of those not like them esp. those who aren't their kind of 'Christian' which might lure/drag them and their families down to hell. Or at least tempt their fetus into being a Britney spears wanna be as then maryland gov wife Kendall Erlich apparently feared when she said she would shoot her if she could  http://www.clickorlando.com/entertainment/2537264/detail.html

afraid the end times/armageddon won't come before they or their kids get contaminated by the world so they won't get raptured.

no wonder they feared Obama on TV since they believe he isn't Christian so he must be on the opposite team in their mind with evil powers of mind control. Didn't beck suggest playing Obama's speech backwards like churches used to to prove rock music is really embedded with evil messages?

3. Every time Frank writes or speaks
I learn something because he lived among these folks for a long, long time. The information he puts out needs to be listened to, very carefully.

Am reminded of a family I know with 2 teenagers who have attended Christian schools all their lives. Mom & Dad were raised Catholic, but at some point left that church and turned "Christian." The kids are steeped in school and church activities, but Mom has a problem with the relatively new Gold Line train that runs from downtown L.A. north and east to their community. She told me she's tired of seeing "Mexicans selling fruits and vegetables on the street" near her home and faults the train line for bringing them too close to her family. Aye yie yie.

15. It's not just a movement -- it's a whole generation of damaged individuals
These people were broken the way terrorists in the hands of the CIA are broken -- but worse than that, they were broken as children and broken by the people they loved and trusted the most.

This is a form of child abuse even more pernicious than incest. It produces individuals who are less than fully human, often almost automaton-like in their behavior.

It's been documented that the groundwork for authoritarianism in pre-World War II Germany and Japan was prepared by abusive child-rearing practices and a norm of bullying in school and at work. But what we have in this country today isn't even a group of individuals who might be ripe for a doctrine that offers them a promise of the wholeness they lack in their own lives. Instead we have a group among whom that authoritarian doctrine is already present -- and is completely bound up with the abuse and degradation itself.

We can fight back against the bullies of the extreme right -- at least we can if we ever get our politicians to admit that what is going on is not merely politics as usual. But how will we ever provide wholeness to an entire spiritually damaged generation?

16. Alice Miller's For Your Own Good brilliantly covers this
For anyone interested in reading this book she has allowed the full text to be posted here: http://www.nospank.net/fyog.htm

Spare the Rod is a site that covers modern books that advocate child abuse in the name of discipline including one by the Pearls which advises whipping babies under a year old with plastic tubing http://stoptherod.net/index.html

17. John Dean is another thinker
who saw the light a ways back. I went to one of his book signings for "Conservatives Without Conscience" where he explored the authoritarian personality/style. It all ties in, and he's another one I'd like to see on the teevee a lot more these days.

Edited on Mon Sep-14-09 09:04 PM by AsahinaKimi
Then you have no room for the real truth..how could you? These home schooled idiots could have been
taught Elephants don't exist..and when you show them one, they would call you a liar! Their heads might explode but they will still call you a liar.

Just wait until the "Jesus Camp"ers grow up.. its gonna be hell in a few years.

24. OK, I read the whole article but Schaeffer doesn't propose a
solution to the problem. I have one.

Why fight with these crazies? You can't teach a pig to sing, it's a waste of time and irritates the pig. Let's just give them their own "country". I suggest we give them the state of Texas as their own little Jesusland. No WMD, no air force, no navy, militia, sure all they want, without artillery or tanks. We could have the US military protect them against invasion by treaty.

Texas should be plenty of space to hold the 15 or 20 million idiots that are the movement. The US could pay for the relocation of the half wits to Texas and the relocation of the few sane Texans that would definitely want to leave. This could work.

27. everyone should read this entire article by Frank Schaeffer - I'm afraid he is quite correct

Conclusion

Not only do the Religious Right distrust facts to them facts are evil. You are "satanic" if you believe in evolution. You're also satanic if you believe health-care reform is about anything but death panels and abortions. You're satanic if you don't believe that gay people are evil or if you think sex education is sensible. You're satanic if you don't believe in Satan!

The tactics that progressives develop for actually winning against the right have to involve far more than politics. They have to also involve ceaseless vigilance against an enemy that has now -- literally -- raised up an armed, paranoid and deluded alternative nation within our borders and created a fifth column to undermine the United States and our democracy. They need to be called out by the rest of us in no uncertain terms.

Long term the Religious Right subculture has to be understood, then exposed for what it is: an anti-democracy movement built on willful lies with potentially violent underpinnings in the thrall of an apocalyptic cult of revenge on everyone not like "us." It is also the useful tool of corporate lobbyists. Who use these shock troops of the proudly ignorant for non-ideological reasons.
